🇺🇸 COMMUNITY HEROES | SERVICE SUPPORTING SERVICE
$1,250 for the children of Southern Arizona. 📚💜

Southern Arizona Book Heroes is incredibly grateful to the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 36 of Tucson for their generous $1,250 donation in support of our mission.
Founder & Executive Director Jennifer Turner-Jones was honored to accept the donation from Squadron 36 Commander Don Jones.

The Sons of the American Legion have a long tradition of service: supporting veterans, strengthening communities, and giving back to organizations that make a difference. We are deeply honored that Squadron 36 chose Southern Arizona Book Heroes as one of the organizations worthy of their support.

And Don's commitment to Tucson extends beyond his leadership with Squadron 36. As the owner of Saguaro Trophy, he is also part of the local small-business community that continually steps forward to support Southern Arizona.

This $1,250 gift will help us continue putting books and comfort items into the hands of first responders so that when they encounter a child experiencing crisis, they have something tangible to offer:

A distraction.
A little comfort.
A story.

And a reminder that someone cares.

To Commander Don Jones and everyone at Sons of the American Legion Squadron 36:

Thank you.

Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for believing in our mission. And most importantly, thank you for the tremendous example of service you continue to set throughout our community. 🇺🇸

Together, we're creating heroes: one child, one book, and one act of kindness at a time. 📚💜

Today is the final day. 💜📚

For the past ten days, we've asked our community to support Southern Arizona Book Heroes in the 2026 Arizona Daily Star Readers’ Choice Awards.

Today, we’re asking one last time.

But whether we finish in the Top 3 or not, something far more important continues tomorrow.

The mission.

Children will still experience frightening and uncertain moments.

First responders will still be there to help them.
And Southern Arizona Book Heroes will continue working to make sure those first responders have something remarkably simple to place into a child's hands:

A book.

Because in that moment, a book can be more than a story.

It can bring comfort.
It can create calm.
It can begin to build trust.

We are incredibly proud to be a Top 10 Nominee for Best Non-Profit Organization, and we're grateful to every person who has voted, shared our posts, donated books, volunteered, partnered with us, or simply told someone about our mission.

If you haven't cast your final vote, today is the day.

48 hours. One mission. 💜📚

We are officially down to the FINAL TWO DAYS of voting in the 2026 Arizona Daily Star Readers’ Choice Awards.

And for Southern Arizona Book Heroes, this has never just been about an award.

It’s about the mission.

It’s about making sure a first responder has a book available when they encounter a child experiencing one of the most frightening moments of their young life.

Because sometimes a book is more than a book.

It can be comfort.
It can create calm.
It can open the door to trust.

One book. One moment of comfort. A lifetime of impact.

We are incredibly honored to be a Top 10 Nominee for Best Non-Profit Organization - and now, with your help, we have a chance to finish in the Top 3.

If you believe in what Southern Arizona Book Heroes is doing for children throughout our community, we're asking for your support one more time.

🗳️ Vote today.
🗳️ Vote again tomorrow.
🏆 Let's finish in the Top 3.

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, first responder, community partner, and supporter who makes this mission possible.

And thank you, Tucson, for continuing to believe in the power of a book when a child needs it most.

48 hours. One mission. Let's finish strong.

TUCSON: DINNER CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE THIS TUESDAY. 📚❤️

We are excited to share that Southern Arizona Book Heroes has been selected as this week's featured nonprofit for JoJo's “Tucson for Tuesday”!

This Tuesday, August 11, from 4:00 - 9:00 PM, a portion of the evening's proceeds at JoJo's will benefit Southern Arizona Book Heroes.

So here's your assignment, Tucson:

Come hungry. Bring some friends. Enjoy a great meal. Listen to some music. And help us put books into the hands of children who need them most.

The funds raised help us provide books and comfort resources to local first responders and other community partners who encounter children during crisis situations.

And this is exactly what we love about Tucson.

A locally owned restaurant supporting a local nonprofit, with our community coming together around both. Good food. Good vibes. Good people. ❤️

A huge thank you to Jo Schneider and the entire JoJo's team for selecting Southern Arizona Book Heroes and for creating Tucson for Tuesday as a way to continually give back to organizations doing work throughout our community.

📍 JoJo's - Old Town Artisans Courtyard
📅 Tuesday, August 11
⏰ 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Elaine and I will be there and we'd love to see a whole bunch of our Book Heroes friends there too!

Come have dinner with us and help turn a Tuesday night in Tucson into something pretty special. 📚❤️

Some gifts last far longer than the moment they're given.

For a child experiencing fear, uncertainty, or crisis, a single book can become much more than a story.

It can become a distraction from fear.

A source of comfort.
A conversation starter.
A reminder that someone cares.

That's why Southern Arizona Book Heroes partners with first responders throughout Southern Arizona: to make sure that when a child needs hope the most, it can begin with something as simple as a book.

We're honored to have been named a Top 10 Nominee for Best Non-Profit in the 2026 Arizona Daily Star Readers' Choice Awards.

With only five days remaining, we're asking our community for one more show of support.

If you believe every child deserves comfort, encouragement, and hope during life's most difficult moments, we'd be honored to earn your vote.

🧡 Voting is open once every 24 hours through August 9. Vote here: https://arizonadailystartucsoncom.secondstreetapp.com/2026-Readers-Choice-Awards/gallery?group=547477

Every vote helps shine a light on our mission and helps more people discover the work being done every day by our volunteers, partners, and first responders.

Thank you, Tucson, for believing in our mission and for standing beside the children and families we serve.

With gratitude,
