“This lack of transparency is typical of both the for-profit prison industry and the current administration of DHS,” said Burke. “The right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing,” said Burke. “The heads of agencies keep changing and the administration keeps re-writing the rules. This reckless acceleration of enforcement and detention is a runaway train and it’s only a matter of time before it goes completely off the rails.”

A private prison company signed a $355 million deal Tuesday to operate an immigration detention facility in Marana, Ariz., and the company plans to open the site before the end of the year.

Last day. 🕐

This is why we do this work. Tiger Mountain Foundation, one of our Subgrantees, didn’t just keep their programs running this year, they grew them. Watch their story above. 👆

It’s why we went a little overboard, and why we’ve been asking you to help us fill the gap. Tonight’s the last chance, our match ends at midnight.

To everyone who gave, shared, or just read one of these emails, thank you. This doesn’t happen without you.

Less than a week. ⏰

Our match up to $5,000 runs out September 30th, and we’re not at goal yet. If you’ve been meaning to give, today’s the day. Every dollar this week gets doubled, and goes straight to the people building safer communities in Maricopa County.

Don’t wait on this one. Link in bio. 🧡
