Two dates. Two meaningful gatherings. One community united in remembrance, awareness, and action. ❤️

This December, join SAAF and our community partners for two important events in Tucson:

🕯️ DECEMBER 1 — WORLD AIDS DAY SERVICE & NAMES PROJECT AIDS MEMORIAL QUILT UNVEILING

Join us at City High School from 6–8 PM for a dedicated World AIDS Day service honoring the names, stories, and lives we remember, and reflecting on the ongoing impact of HIV in our community.

👟 DECEMBER 5 — 38TH ANNUAL AIDSWALK TUCSON

Join us at Gene C. Reid Park for a day of community, remembrance, HIV awareness, and advocacy. Take part in our classic 1.5-mile walk or try our new 5K run option!

In past years, the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt unveiling took place alongside AIDSWALK Tucson. This year, SAAF and our community partners will hold the unveiling as its own dedicated gathering on December 1, World AIDS Day, creating space to honor the names, stories, and lives we remember.

Both gatherings are important opportunities to remember, connect, and make a difference. We hope you'll join us.

We are 14 days away from the Big Gay 5K! 🏃‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️🏃🏻🏃🏿🏃🏽🏃🏾🎈

The inaugural Big Gay 5K is coming to Tucson on Saturday, October 24 — a brand-new, high-energy, professionally produced 5K and finish festival built around movement, community, and a frankly unreasonable amount of joy.

And SAAF is right in the middle of it.🌈

We’re one of five local nonprofits making up Rainbow Row, which means the Big Gay 5K isn’t simply putting our logo on a banner.

Throughout the event and the weeks leading up to it, SAAF gets opportunities to connect with participants, tell our story, meet new supporters and raise money directly for the work we do in Southern Arizona.

The Big Gay 5K doesn’t end when you cross the finish line. It opens into an expanded finish festival, and SAAF will be behind the bar making sure cold drinks are waiting.

📬 October 7: Early voting begins and early ballots start being mailed.

🗳️ November 3: Election Day! Polls are open 6 AM–7 PM.

Voting by mail? Remember to sign and seal your ballot envelope. After October 27, return it to an official ballot drop-off or voting location in your county. Ballots must be received by 7 PM on Election Day.

Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001, and the lives lost that day.

We remember the victims, their families and loved ones, the first responders and all those who showed extraordinary courage and compassion in the face of unimaginable loss.

More than two decades later, we continue to carry the lessons of that day with us: the importance of compassion, community, courage, and caring for one another.

From all of us at the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, we remember. 🕊️

Our hearts are heavy today.

The violence at Venture-N has shaken Tucson’s LGBTQIA+ community. We are heartbroken for the families and loved ones of Vincent Anthony Siqueiros and Cameron Davis Capara, and for everyone who witnessed or was affected by what happened.

The Tucson Police Department is investigating this as a hate crime. While that investigation continues, one thing is already clear: Violence against our community affects all of us. Places like Venture-N are more than businesses. They are places where people find friendship, chosen family, safety, and belonging.

Please know that SAAF is here. If you are struggling with fear, grief, or the psychological trauma of this event, please contact us and we will connect you with someone who can help. You do not have to carry this alone.

Tucson Queerstory is bringing our community together to honor the Venture-N victims on Wednesday, September 2, at 6:30 p.m. at Catalina Park on Fourth Avenue. If you are able, please join us as we remember the lives lost and support one another.

Please check on one another and take care of yourselves. We are grieving together, and we will continue standing together.

A huge thank you to ADP Tucson for organizing a supply drive to support the Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation! 💙

Thanks to the generosity of the ADP team, we received an incredible donation of hygiene products, household cleaning supplies, and pet care essentials. These everyday items go a long way in helping us support the individuals and families we serve.

We're grateful to Kenzie Morgan from ADP and our own Tris Fowler for helping make the donation handoff happen. Community partnerships like this truly make a difference, and we're so thankful for everyone at ADP Tucson who contributed.
