Senior Pride celebrates, supports and unites le***an, gay, bisexual, and transgender older adults in Southern Arizona. Southern Arizona Senior Pride recognizes and responds to the unique concerns of le***an, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQI+) older adults, age 55+ and their younger allies, by creating volunteer, social, and educational opportunities for older LGBTQI+ people, increasing aware
ness of LGBTQI+ aging issues, and providing LGBTQI+ welcoming information and referral services. Founded in 2002 as a program of the Wingspan LGBT Community Center, the group chose to continue as Southern Arizona Senior Pride when Wingspan closed in 2014. Southern Arizona Senior Pride publishes a monthly newsletter, The Senior Forum, which is distributed in print and online; hosts a monthly potluck, book club, and speakers series, sponsors educational, social and cultural events; provides visits and phone calls to homebound older people 55+ and people with disabilities of any age, holds workshops on end of life planning; provides grief support groups and an Elder Support/Discussion Group and collaborates with Pima Council on Aging’s Visibility Matters. A project that provides cultural competency training to staff at assisted living homes and Certified Nursing Assistant programs. Southern Arizona Senior Pride administers its practices and programs without discrimination on the basis of actual or perceived race, ethnicity, color, ancestry, age, gender, gender identity or expression, national origin, marital status, familial status, sexual orientation, disability, citizenship status or veteran status. Southern Arizona Senior Pride is funded entirely by contributions. Our goals and objectives are:
1. Strengthen the community of LGBTQI+older adults through outreach, participation, events, and networking.
2. Provide social, volunteer and and educational opportunities.
3. Communicate through our newsletter, e-mail, website, and page to keep LGBTQI+ older adults current with information, policies and issues.
4. Advocate for LGBTQI+ older adults.
5. Collaborate with other Aging Service Organizations to promote and develop services for LGBTQI+ older adults.
