Amistades, Inc. Amistades uses an intergenerational family approach to working with the Southern Arizona community.

Amistades is a community centered non profit committed to strengthening Southern Arizona’s community through responsive services, empowerment, and sustainable, meaningful change. We address immediate issues and develop long-term solutions that are data driven and community informed. Today, we held our Planting for Tomorrow event for our Raices Vivas program funded by Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. This was a fun community event where families planted trees at Apollo Middle School SUSD and helped make the school greener!

A very special thank you to Tucson Clean and Beautiful for donating native trees, Flowers & Bullets for educating all participants on the importance of tree planting, and Apollo Middle School for allowing us to plant 5 new trees!

🌟NEW GRANT ALERT🌟

Amistades is a 2026 AHEAD program grant winner and will be awarded $95,000, delivered by RDF in partnership with Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. These grant funds will support Capital Culture, a culturally rooted financial empowerment initiative that uses traditional Latino Tandas (Lending Circles) to help low-income families build savings, strengthen financial knowledge, access banking resources, and explore workforce and entrepreneurship opportunities. The program builds on trusted community practices to create pathways toward greater financial stability and long-term economic mobility.

It was a pleasure to welcome representatives from the Consulado de México en Tucson to Amistades and share more about our work across Southern Arizona.

For 20 years, Amistades has worked alongside Latino and immigrant families, creating opportunities through education, prevention, economic empowerment, and culturally grounded programs.

Our conversation was an opportunity to explore how we can build on our shared commitment to supporting Mexican nationals and their families, expanding access to resources, and strengthening the connections between institutions and the communities they serve.

We are excited about the possibilities ahead, from supporting families through our existing programs to exploring new approaches to community engagement and strategic partnerships.

Thank you to Consul Fernando Sánchez and the Consulate team for your visit, your leadership, and your commitment to our community.

Douglas Weekly Recap✨

This past Monday the Douglas team completed their first cohort of the Familia Adelanta program. Thank you to everyone who participated!

On Tuesday we completed the Thrive program with students at the Boys & Girls Club of Bisbee. Thank you to the Boys & Girls Club of Bisbee for your partnership.

On Wednesday we continued our UnidosUS Pioneras En Stem with our PPEP Tec students where we had guest speaker Lily Lara of Chiricahua Community Health Centers, Inc. talk about her career in stem. Thank you Lily for speaking with the students!

To close out the week, on Thursday our Douglas Youth Leadership Council went to the Knuckleheads Boxing Gym to support their boxing program.

We are excited to share that Amistades has been awarded $3.75M in funding from SAMHSA under their MAT-PDOA program to continue and expand our work strengthening access to Medications for Opioid Use Disorder, recovery supports and coordinated care across Southern Arizona.

Through the Southern Arizona Opioid Care Network, this five-year initiative will bring together treatment providers, recovery organizations, community partners, and referral systems to improve access, strengthen warm handoffs, and support individuals and families impacted by opioid use disorder.

This work is rooted in partnership, collaboration, and collective impact. We are grateful to our provider network and community partners who continue to walk alongside us in building a stronger, more connected system of care.

At Amistades, Sami leads our civic engagement programs as well as our college and career readiness programs. He shows up every day for his community, students, participants, and coworkers. Sami brings great energy, passion, and knowledge to the office.
