The first mural is done! Dante and Nidia are painting a connected multi-mural series under the theme “Coexisting with Nature” linking our communities in Arizona and Sonora through shared art and conservation🐆🌵🫶🏻. Northern Jaguar Project is excited to host two incredible muralists who are bringing vibrant public art to our binational region: Dante (“El Dante”) and Nidia! 🐆✨
Who Are the Artists?
Dante and Nidia are the visionaries behind Telera Gráfica, a community project based in Culiacán, Mexico. They use art to empower youth, lift up indigenous and women’s rights, and inspire environmental protection. 🌿
Just like the jaguars we work to protect, nature and wildlife move freely across human borders.
To honor this, Dante and Nidia are painting a connected multi-mural series under the theme “Coexisting with Nature” linking our communities in Arizona and Sonora through shared art and conservation. 🌐🌵

🌵 Tucson, Arizona (Starting Today, July 21st!)
Location: The Historic Y (in the alley off University Blvd)
When: Stop by Tuesday through Saturday, during late afternoons and evenings, to watch them paint and say hello!

Locations: Near the town gas station & at the Casa de la Cultura
Bonus: Local junior high students from our environmental education program will be painting alongside them!

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to the team at Cuenca Los Ojos for recently sharing their hospitality and expertise with Northern Jaguar Project.
Thank you for hosting our staff members, Miguel A. Gómez Ramírez and Cristhian A. Valente Sánchez, for an incredible watershed restoration workshop. Much was learned and the connections made during this trip were invaluable, including a very special visit with the Secretary of SEMARNAT, Alicia Barcenas and the Commissioner of CONANP Pedro Alvarez. We also appreciate you giving our Board President, Ben Wilder, and NJP’s Assistant Director, Cholla Duir, a firsthand look at your inspiring property and how wonderfully you care for your guests.
We are proud to work alongside organizations like yours and look forward to deepening our collaboration in the future! 💚

Acompaña a la Directora Ejecutiva de Proyecto Jaguar del Norte, Lydia Lozano, y a la Subdirectora, Cholla Rose Duir, este viernes 12 de junio en Álamos, Sonora, para la proyección del documental Borderlands Jaguar! La proyección tendrá lugar en el Museo Costumbrista del Estado de Sonora, en Guadalupe Victoria 1, Centro, 85760 Álamos, Son., México, a las 10:30 am, seguida de una sesión de preguntas y respuestas. El documental está en inglés con subtítulos en español. Este evento es gratuito y no es necesario confirmar asistencia.

Borderlands Jaguar es un emocionante documental de 52 minutos que sigue a los cineastas de vida silvestre Austin Alvarado y Ben Masters en una búsqueda para documentar a esta esquiva especie y resaltar la importancia de conservar los corredores de vida silvestre a lo largo de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México. Para lograr su misión, Austin y Ben buscan la ayuda de un legendario ranchero de Arizona, un cazador de jaguares convertido en conservacionista y un investigador de la Reserva Jaguar del Norte. Ellos encuentran a la matriarca de la reserva, Libélula, una jaguar de doce años cuyos cachorros viven en Sonora y podrían migrar a los Estados Unidos.

Representing jaguars in DC! For a screening of Borderlands Jaguar at The DC Environmental Film Festival!

Saturday, March 21, catch a screening of BORDERLANDS JAGUAR at DCEFF!

This impactful new film follows wildlife cinematographers Austin Alvarado and Ben Masters on a quest to document the elusive species and show the importance of conserving wildlife corridors along the US-Mexico border. The stakes could not be higher.

On February 9th, Northern Jaguar Project’s administrative team, including Executive Director Lydia Lozano, Sahuaripa Headquarters Coordinator Walquiria Duarte, and Legal and Administrative Coordinator Beatriz Castro, were invited to meet with the Sonoran state commissioner of Ecology, Lic. Carlos Ernesto Zatarain Gonzalez and the state Conservation Director Norma Cruz to share with them NJP’s 20-years of conservation efforts in Sahuaripa, Sonora, where we are protecting the northernmost breeding population of jaguars in the world. We look forward to continuing the conversation with them to explore possible collaborations, and work together to better understand and protect the Sonoran Jaguar Biological Corridor, where the Northern Jaguar Reserve® is located.
El pasado 9 de febrero, nuestra directora ejecutiva Lydia Lozano, la coordinadora de la oficina de Sahuaripa Walquiria Duarte y la coordinadora Administrativa y legal Beatriz Castro se reunieron con el Comisionado Estatal de Ecología y Desarrollo Sustentable de Sonora, el Lic. Carlos Zataraín y la directora de Conservación Norma Cruz. Compartimos con ellos nuestro trabajo de 20 años conservando la población reproductiva de jaguar más norteña del mundo. Esperamos poder continuar la conversación con ellos y explorar posibles colaboraciones para trabajar juntos en entender mejor y proteger el Corredor Biológico del Jaguar en Sonora, donde nuestra Reserva Jaguar del Norte® se encuentra.
