Yesterday, AFSCME members Jerrad McMurrich of Local 905 and Maria Velasco of Local 449 delivered a petition opposing proposed cuts to vital services like Medicaid, which are being considered by Congress to fund tax cuts for billionaires.

Jerrad McMurrich stated: "Congress is pushing budget cuts that will greatly reduce the services available to our communities. All the while, billionaires are enjoying tax breaks and deepening their pockets, claiming to do so under the guise of liberty. And even though the wealthy have more than enough money to afford endless opportunities, they are choosing to come after these essential services that help provide equal opportunity and basic human rights to us hardworking Arizonans."

Maria Velasco, who grew up with Congressman Ciscomani, added: " I grew up with Congressman Juan Ciscomani. I know he has 6 beautiful children and really values his family and our diverse community. He knows how important it is to protect our loved ones, which is why we cannot let him back down when it comes to opposing cuts to Medicaid."

More than a century ago, legendary labor organizer Mother Jones said, “Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living.”

On Workers Memorial Day, we commemorate the thousands of workers killed or injured on the job every year including AFSCME members. Let’s honor them by standing together to demand better protections on the job. https://act.afscme.org/letters/support-worker-safety-legislation?source=direct_link&

Today is Workers Memorial Day. As we honor the more than 5,000 workers killed on the job every year, we must do more to fight for worker safety. We must Get Organized to defend workers against this new administration, which is willfully endangering workers.
