Retired Paws is an official 501(c)(3) status and is fully tax exempt. I wanted to create an organization that would benefit retired law enforcement canines in any as many ways as possible. With the help from Chris Dudding, Greg and Marian LaLonde, we have begun this process. My dream is to have the organization be available to help retired law enforcement canines across the country. Hopefully, as time goes on, and we get more support from canine loving people, my dream will become a reality.

Happy first day of May!

My name is Max and I am a retired U.S. Border Patrol detection, tracking, and trailing K9. During my career serving in West Texas, I helped seize over $900,000 worth of illegal narcotics.

One day during training, I suddenly became very ill. After several tests, it was discovered that I had progressive heart valve disease. Because of my diagnosis, I was no longer able to continue serving my country and was medically retired so I could live the rest of my life in comfort.

These days, retirement life suits me pretty well. Napping is my number one priority. I also love when my kids secretly slide me one Chick-fil-A nugget (I want them all, but the vet says I have to maintain my diet). My favorite hobbies include playing with toy balls, destroying stuffed animals, and soaking up the sun before a good nap.

Because of my heart valve disease, I require extra veterinary care to help me continue living my best life for as long as possible. And as many of you know, vet bills can be very expensive. Thanks to donors like you and Retired Paws, my family is better able to afford the care I need.

Thank you for supporting retired working dogs like me. Your kindness helps us enjoy the happy, comfortable retirement we earned.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I think it’s time to catch some rays and take another nap… and maybe dream about my next nugget.

My name is Chemy, and I’m a retired U.S. Border Patrol K9 trained in search and rescue (SAR) and human remains detection (HRD). During my career, I deployed on numerous missions, helping bring answers and closure when it mattered most.

Eventually, I hung up my rescue vest and transitioned into retirement—the good life I worked so hard for.
These days, I spend my time enjoying the simple things: trips to the park (so many smells, so little time!), long walks, and relaxing at home with my family.

Recently, my family faced a frightening emergency when I became very sick. I was diagnosed with an enlarged spleen and a dangerously low red blood cell count. I needed an immediate blood transfusion and urgent medical treatment.

Thanks to generous donors like you and the support of Retired Paws, my family was better able to afford the lifesaving care I needed. Your kindness made all the difference in my journey, and I’m so grateful to be here today, continuing to enjoy my retirement.

Not every K9 can say they were named after a fallen police officer. My name is Rozco, and I was named in honor of fallen officer Kerrie Orozco of the Omaha Police Department. I wear my name with pride and served as a multipurpose K9—patrol, tracking, narcotics detection, and bite work—with the Bellevue Police Department until retiring to enjoy the good life.

After retirement, I made my way to sunny Arizona, where I spend my days soaking up the sun, chasing lizards, and going for runs. Every now and then, I even get to relive my working days by joining local departments during training sessions—it brings back some great memories from my narcotics detection days.

Recently, I was diagnosed with a bilateral pelvic floor hernia that requires extensive herniorrhaphy surgery, along with a neuter to help prevent future issues. Thanks to generous donors like you and the support of Retired Paws, my family can better afford the medical care I need to keep living my best retired life.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, the sun is shining, the lizards are out, and I’ve got a territory to protect.

Hi, my name is Atos (not to be confused with Athos the stoic musketeer), and I am a retired U.S. Border Patrol detection K9. I had an incredible career in the San Diego sector, where I was proud to be part of numerous narcotic and currency seizures.

Now, I’m enjoying retirement and truly living my best life. I love relaxing by the pool—getting in, not so much—but it’s the perfect spot to soak up the sun. You’ll almost always find me with my favorite Kong toy, ready for a good game of fetch.

I’m not the only German Shepherd in the house, but thankfully we get along great, which makes retirement even sweeter.

Thanks to Retired Paws and generous donors like you, my family was able to afford a recent vet visit to make sure I’m healthy and strong. Because of that support, I can keep doing what I love most—playing fetch and enjoying long, lazy afternoons by the pool.

I hear there’s a rabbit hopping around visiting houses soon—sounds like the perfect game of catch for all the K9s out there!

My name is Badi, and I am a retired U.S. Border Patrol narcotics and concealed human detection K9. During my career, I was responsible for over $7 million in drug seizures.

Like my K9 law enforcement brother Tango, who shared his story recently, I also lost my handler unexpectedly. Since I was already close to retirement, I officially retired and began learning how to live my very best retired life.

These days, lounging on my bed is one of my favorite pastimes. I also enjoy trying to make friends with the household cats—though they certainly make it a challenge! I’m a friendly guy, after all… who wouldn’t want to be my friend?

Retirement comes with its own set of costs, but thanks to generous donors like you and the support of Retired Paws, my family is better able to provide for my care. Because of that, I get to enjoy many more years of comfort, relaxation, and love.

It is time to put my elite detection skills back to work and create a plan to catch the rascally rabbit.

Spring is in the air! My name is Boszi, and I am a retired Office of Field Operations narcotic and human detection K9. I had a very rewarding career, but it was time for me to retire and start living my best life.

This girl is absolutely loving retirement! It comes with so many new adventures. I enjoy going on walks and taking in all the sights, and I love shopping for new treats—there are so many delicious varieties to choose from. One of my favorite activities is going on pup cup rides. They are the best reason to hop in the car and head out on an adventure. I mean, who wouldn’t love their very own yummy cup of goodness?

Recently, I wasn’t feeling my best. I had constipation and some blood in my stool, so I needed to visit the vet to figure out what was going on. My health in retirement is a top priority for my family, and thanks to generous donors like you and Retired Paws, they are better able to afford the care I need.

After all, I still have many more treats to taste and pup cup rides to enjoy in my future!
