Kitten season is here! We are seeing kittens trickle into the shelter.

Although it may not make sense, letting the mamma cat raise her kittens outside is the best way to help them thrive. Actually, the warm weather in Arizona is why we see so many kittens this time of year. You can supply mom with food, water and an outdoor shelter, but don’t be surprised if she moves her precious ones.

🐈 Once the babies are eating wet food (about 4 weeks old) you can bring them inside for socialization and reach out for spay and neuter resources to rehome/724-7222
🐈‍⬛ Don't forget mom! She must be trapped and spayed or she will continue to produce kittens until her body wears out/[email protected]
😻 FREE spay and neuter services are available year round for community cats!

Cats are starting to birth around Tucson. Although it seems counterintuitive, letting the queen raise her kits outside is the most effective way to ensure survival.

😺The goal is to keep everyone healthy and out of the shelter. Foster homes need to be used for sick, injured or truly abandoned kittens.

😻FREE spay and neuter services are available year round for community cats through Santa Cruz Veterinary Clinic. Visit their website for deets.

Feline infectious peritonitis was once 100% fatal in cats, but a groundbreaking new treatment gave hope to Buster and his caregiver.

Story is a petite tortie with a past so wild, it almost sounds made up—but we promise, every bit of it is true.

Most people get their cats through the standard Cat Distribution System channels: a stray on the porch, a kitten in a bush… maybe a mysterious dumpster delivery. But Story? She said, “Let’s get creative.” This girl arrived via dresser drawer. Yes. Drawer.

Before that plot twist, she had been unknowingly moved along from a home she used to quietly visit as a stray (let’s just say she was an expert at letting herself in). Then came an unexpected stint trapped in a storage unit—until a kind employee heard her and made the call that changed everything.

And through all of that? She’s still here. Still small, still mighty, and still writing her next chapter.

Story may need a little time to settle in after such a… unconventional journey, but underneath it all is a resilient, special little cat who’s ready for something new: a calm home, a soft place to land, and a human who appreciates a good origin story.

After all, not every cat can say they came from a drawer—but Story can.

Story is available for $50 RESERVATION pending any owners looking for her. If no one steps forward, she will go to alter surgery on April 2 and be ready to go home that evening.

Meet Lilly and Pearl—tortie sisters, “twins,” and a perfectly balanced duo of cozy and curious.

These two may be a little shy in the shelter (it’s a lot to take in!), but their story from home paints a much sweeter picture. They previously lived with dogs and handled it like pros, showing they can share their space and adapt to a lively household.

Lilly is your classic couch potato queen. She’s happiest curled up in a comfy spot, snoozing the day away and perfecting the art of relaxation. Pearl, on the other hand, is her slightly more adventurous sister—the one who will come over, hop into your lap, and remind you she’s there for love and connection.

Together, they make a wonderful pair: one to keep things calm and cozy, the other to gently draw you in with affection. They lean on each other for comfort and confidence, and they’ll thrive in a home that gives them a little time to settle and show their true selves.
