Our Story
An unlikely story, but it’s true. In 1920, Tucson was a dusty little Western town of just a few more than 20,000 people. The University of Arizona had been founded in 1885, and the Arizona Alpha chapter of Pi Beta Phi was chartered in 1917. Just three years later, U of A graduate Rosemary Drachman and a group of friends founded the Tucson Alumnae Club of Pi Beta Phi so they could continue their participation in the friendship, leadership, and service traditions of Pi Phi they had come to love, and to continue their support for and enjoyment of the Arizona Alpha Chapter. Now, 101 years later, Tucson is still occasionally dusty, but it has grown into a cosmopolitan city with a population of more than a million. Rosemary and the other alumnae established a strong foundation for us: the Tucson Alumnae Club is still here, still supporting and enjoying the collegians of AZ Alpha, still blooming.
