Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization which gives its members the opportunity to develop and improve their public speaking abilities through local club meetings, training seminars and speech contests. Training Day!
Tucson Toastmasters' core of dedicated officers was well represented at Saturday's in-person District 3 Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) training. Roughly 100 of our colleagues were in attendance from across Southern Arizona and El Paso, TX.

I am pleased to report that our club's VP Education, Jean Harber and VP Public Relations, Al Velosa have also completed their officer training using the online option.

It's a double-double!
This week's club meeting produced a rare outcome: Not only did our esteemed Toastmaster, Cale W. (r) earn the day's "Best Speaker" and "Most Improved" awards, but a first-time guest, Arash R. topped the votes for both "Best Table Topic" and "Spark Plug."
Congratulations to both winners!

We celebrated a century of Toastmasters International at this week's meeting with some special speeches and tasty snacks.
Al Velosa (pictured) helped set the tone as Jokemaster.
Honorees this week included Best Speaker, Juan "Sarge" Rodriguez (pictured) and Best Evaluator, Herbert Braisz.
The Most Improved trophy went to Jonathan Arlia, while Ramon Moreno (pictured) earned the hardware and a special gift for Best Table Topics.
Sarah Webb was this week's Toastmaster, and her energetic performance earned her a share of the Sparkplug honors with Juan.

On Tuesday, Oct. 22, Tucson Toastmasters will join more than 14,000 clubs worldwide in celebrating our 100th year.
Members and guests are invited to join us for special presentations highlighting our distinguished history.

Great meeting today, featuring an inspiring Ice Breaker talk from one of our newest club members, Nick Cavuto, and a deftly humorous turn from one of our most senior, Juan "Sarge" Rodriguez.
We can't wait to flash him the "universal gesture of friendship" next time we see him!
The room was full, and we had two guests on the WebEx.
As Sarge would say, "Great energy!"
To elevate the proceedings even further, our resident dessert chef, Jean Harber, DTM orchestrated the delectable birthday surprise pictured here - a tray of custom-molded chocolates. Better look fast, as they are likely to disappear rapidly!
Happy 86th Birthday, Juan Rodriguez! You remain a sparkplug for Tucson Toastmasters.

Great turnout for this week's Open House!
We were delighted to welcome a total of seven guests on Tuesday for a pizza lunch and lively presentations.
The meeting was highlighted by "What's Your Why?" a tandem presentation from Angela DiFuccia and Sarah Webb that explored how Toastmasters guides us along the pathway to better communications, greater confidence, and stronger leadership.
There was time for a handful of Table Topics too, with three Toastmasters providing their takes on what brought them to the organization.
Was this a successful meeting?
Well, by the meeting's close, we had two new member applications.

WEEKLY MEETING UPDATE:
Yesterday's vibrant Tucson Toastmasters meeting featured a provocative talk from club member Nick Pierson, who deftly addressed an issue currently on everybody's mind: "Why are people so divided?"
Attendees included four guests (one via our WebEx channel) and the meeting concluded with two new member sign-ups. Welcome, J. and B.!
