The Pima County Sheriff’s Department would like to alert the public of the latest scam in our area. The suspect claims to be Lt. Brown from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. He tells the victims they have unpaid tickets that need to be taken care of immediately or their vehicle will be towed.

The victims are told to purchase a Green Dot card for the amount owed and call him back to provide the number on the back of the card. The suspect’s phone number returns to a pre-paid cellular phone out of Casa Grande

The Sheriff’s Department has received two reports reference this scam in the last two days. Here are a few tips to prevent you from becoming a victim:

• Do not give out personal information to an incoming caller
• Contact the Sheriff’s Department to see if you actually have unpaid tickets
• The Pima County Sheriff’s Department will not have you purchase prepaid credit cards to satisfy fines
• Report suspicious calls
