Hey Steps in the Light family! ✨ If you’ve ever stared down Step Four of Alcoholics Anonymous, you know taking that "searching and fearless moral inventory" can feel a whole lot like being swallowed alive by a giant fish. Honestly, it’s the ultimate Jonah moment! Just like Jonah tried to run from God and ended up trapped in the dark, messy belly of a whale, we often use our addictions to run from our own truths until we hit rock bottom. But the magic happens when we stop running, surrender, and finally look inward. Jonah 2:2 reminds us of that exact turning point: "In my distress I called to the Lord, and he answered me. From deep in the realm of the dead I called for help, and you listened to my cry." Step Four isn’t about beating yourself up in the dark; it’s about acknowledging where we are, turning on the flashlight, and preparing to be delivered from the wreckage. If you are in the belly of the whale doing that inventory today, keep writing— coming up for air is just around the corner! 🐋🌊🙏

🌸 HONORING THE MOTHERS OF RECOVERY 🌸
This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and restoration of every woman walking the path of recovery. Just as Naomi was restored after a season of bitterness and loss, or Hagar found hope in the wilderness through the "God who sees me," your journey of healing is a powerful testament to God's grace. Whether you are a mother in recovery or a mother supporting someone on the path, remember that your past does not define your future—God is the ultimate restorer of broken hearts.
Recovery is a journey of daily renewal, and your commitment to growth is a holy sacrifice.
📖 Psalm 147:3: "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
📖 Joel 2:25: "I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten."
To the mothers who are rebuilding, reconnecting, and rediscovering their purpose: you are seen, you are loved, and your perseverance is changing your family's legacy. Take this day to rest in His peace and celebrate how far you’ve come. 🌿✨

✨ HONORING THE SABBATH ✨

Honoring the Sabbath as a sacred day of rest and spiritual surrender, we find the perfect space to practice Step 3, making a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understand Him. 🙏 Use this quiet time to let go of the need to control every outcome and instead reflect on how the past week has shown you that you don't have to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Recovery is built on this foundation of trust—believing that when we release our grip, we are held by a power greater than ourselves. 🌿 As it says in Proverbs 3:5-6: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." 🙌 Take a deep breath, hand over your burdens, and find peace in knowing you are exactly where you need to be. One day at a time! 💪👣

Step 2: Finding Hope in the "Great Reality" ✨

In the Big Book of AA, Step 2 is often described as the "hope step." After admitting we were powerless in Step 1, Step 2 asks us to be open-minded enough to believe that God can restore us to sanity. It’s about moving from "I can’t" to "God can." It is the moment we stop trying to be the director of our own lives and realize there is a source of strength ready to help us if we only stay willing.

This shift in perspective is beautifully captured in Matthew 19:26:

"Jesus looked at them and said, 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'"

When we rely only on our own willpower, the mountain feels too high to climb. But when we lean into God, the impossible starts to happen one day at a time.

Reflect on this today:

What is one area of your life right now where your "self-will" is causing friction, and what would it look like to truly hand that specific worry over to God?

We’d love to hear your heart—drop a comment below and share how you’re practicing "letting go" today! 👇

Struggling with "life on life’s terms" can feel like an uphill battle, but James 1:2–4 reminds us that our toughest trials are often the forge for our greatest strength. It says, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance." In recovery, we learn that we don't have to like the struggle to grow from it—we just have to stay present through it. Which part of this verse speaks to your journey most today?
Cast your vote below! 🗳️
A. Finding "joy" in the middle of a mess.
B. Learning the difference between a "trial" and a "defeat."
C. Building the "perseverance" to stay clean/sober today.
D. Accepting that "life's terms" are part of the process.
And if you want to explain why you answered what you did, bonus points! 🏆
