Cakes For Causes

Showing people they are appreciated, valued, and loved using baked goods and sugar art.

The expansion of outreach activities from the Icing on the Cake Club and the tragic events that occurred in January 2011 at Gabrielle Giffords’ ‘Congress on Your Corner’ meeting spurred the creation of Cakes for Causes in February 2011. Located in Tucson, AZ, we are an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) consisting of cake decorators, bakers, sugar artists, and anyone else who wants to heal the world through

sugar art. We provide, at no cost to our clientele, decorative cakes, or other baked goods, and/or sugar art lessons for non-profit groups’ parties, fundraising events, or learning sessions. In doing so we bring premium products and services within reach of non-profits to allow them to focus their funds toward their missions.

On Sept. 13, 2025 Banner Thunderbird Hospital, hosted an event, as September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Our Miss Michelle made 112 awesomely decorated sugar cookies for the kiddos to enjoy.

This past Saturday (9/20/25), The American Cancer Society hosted their Relay for Life in the PHX area, and asked for 150 cookies to share at their survivor reception. As this was a public event, we weren't going to be able to consider their request. So they weren't going to put a request in (we will explain what has happened in a future post).

But our Miss Michelle wanted to make this happen for them, so she offered to sponsor the packaging and labeling costs, as well as additional time to package everything individually. And then she baked, decorated, packaged, and labeled everything within a week's time!!!!!!! She made 65 adorable decorated sugar cookies and 80 chocolate chip cookies.

Happy Thursday (8/21/25) all! Our Miss Michelle made these adorable cupcakes. One dozen chocolate cupcakes, with mini sugar cookie toppers, for a 6 year old who is celebrating End of Treatment at Banner Thunderbird Hospital. The little one loves Labubu!

Although we still have a couple of pictures of treats to share with you, we wanted to let you know our Sugar Ship has docked for our winter break. We will set sail again on January 6, 2025. Thank you to everyone for your support of our cause! We love sharing our Sugar Hugs.

Last Friday (12/20/24), the Children's Rehabilitative Services PHX clinic hosted a Christmas party for the pediatric patients and their families. Michelle made 54 decorated sugar cookies, 107 sugar cookie cups with buttercream, and 54 chocolate dipped pretzels with sprinkles. And Kristy made 144 holiday chocolate chip cookies and 106 Grinch sugar cookies. Too cute and yummy! We hope everyone had a wonderful time! 🌲⛄

Last Sunday (12/15/24), the AZ National Guard, located in Phoenix, hosted a "Mingle and Jingle" event. They asked for uniced sugar cookies for the kids to decorate. So Michelle made 100 uniced rolled sugar cookies and provided 1 tub of sprinkles, and Kristy made 100 uniced rolled sugar cookies, and 2 batches of buttercream. We hope everyone had fun at the Jingle!

Happy Saturday! Today (12/14/24), More Than A Bed hosted a Christmas gift giving event for foster kids. They wanted to give a cookie to each child as they picked their gift. So our bakers fired up their ovens, and made all kinds of holiday shaped rolled sugar cookies with decos. Lynn made 6 dozen, Angie made 6.5 dozen, and Rene' made 8.3 dozen. 🌲⛄

Today (12/13/24) Davis Monthan Air Force Base hosted a "Cookies and Cocoa with Santa" for the children of our service members. Through our partnership with Tucson Community Cares, we were able to share 10 dozen rolled, and decorated, sugar cookies. Linda and Jennifer made 6 dozen (vanilla, chocolate, and peanut butter) sugar cookies, Vanessa made 2 dozen vanilla sugar cookies, and Rene' made 2 dozen sugar cookies. So adorable! We hope the kids had a great time! ⛄🌲

Compass Affordable Housing hosted a Home for the Holidays event this past Wednesday (12/4/24). Lynn made 100 brownie bites with peppermint buttercream icing, and cute candy toppers, and an adorable 3-layer 8-inch cake (white chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream icing) with candy tree toppers. Yum!
