Tucson Atheist Community Outreach Team, Inc. The TACO Team provides community & social support for Atheists, and non-believers in Southern AZ. The seed was planted then to start this group.

At the Annual Winter Solstice party in 2015 a group of us heathens were sitting around the bonfire talking about all the things we wish we could do to help our community. Many lofty ideas were brought up and maybe we'll get there someday. Now each month we choose a different cause in the Tucson community to volunteer for and have a donation or fundraising drive for. Two generous partners have joined the Giving Saguaro Matching Circle, pledging a combined $500. Every gift is now being matched dollar for dollar.

Now we need you to help us rebuild the full $2,000 match. Pledge $250, $500, or $1,000, and your pledge doubles even more gifts for Tucson families.

Good news: your gift to The Giving Saguaro is now being matched! 🌵

Two generous Matching Circle partners have pledged a combined $500, so every donation is now matched dollar for dollar until that $500 is used up. Give $25, and Tucson families get $50.

Our very first donor has already been matched, and they even chose to cover the processing fee so every penny goes to families. If you’d like to do the same, you’ll see that option when you give.

Why do we give families cash instead of gift cards? 🌵

For years, The Giving Saguaro gave each family a $100 Visa gift card. But the activation fees kept climbing, and eventually too much of each donation was going to the card company instead of the family.

So last year we switched to cash. The result:

The family gets the full $100.
They decide where it goes: groceries, gas, a bill, or a holiday meal.
Your donation goes further.

We look for ways to make every dollar count, because it's your money and their holiday.

Every other Thursday, we get together for a group discussion on a topic in atheism, the impact of religion on individuals and society, and how that affects us as free thinkers. We always start with a central topic, and then let the discussion go where it will, with reference to the central theme.

This discussion group often reaches into history and theoretical concepts, which means that we discuss not just current topics, but how the past and the possibilities of the future may affect it. It is not necessarily a goal-oriented discussion or a planning session, as much as it is a chance to play in the mental field of these ideas, from as many angles as possible. You will never have to prepare for the discussion because the topic will be accessible without research, and you are as welcome to come just to listen, as you are to share your thoughts! If you like to discuss in this way, this group is for you.

Good without God, for goodness' sake. 🌵

The TACO Team is a group of atheists, agnostics, and freethinkers in Tucson. We don't believe goodness needs a religious reason. We believe in showing up for our neighbors because it's the right thing to do.

The Giving Saguaro is one of the ways we do that. Every December we give directly to Tucson families: $100 in cash, new gifts, and homemade treats. No strings, no sermons.

You don't need to be an atheist to give. Anyone who wants to help Tucson families is welcome.

What does a small gift actually do? Here's the math. 🌵

Every family in The Giving Saguaro receives $100 in cash, plus new gifts, wrapping supplies, and homemade treats.

One $100 gift = one family's full holiday cash
Four $25 gifts = the same
Ten $10 gifts = the same

Last year 25 donors raised $4,223 and supported 24 Tucson families. This year we're aiming for 40 donors and $6,000. Small gifts add up fast when enough people give.
