'Harryhausen’s innovation in stop motion had a lasting effect on viewers and filmmakers alike. His creatures – Skeletons from Jason and the Argonauts (1963), Minaton from Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger (1977) and Medusa from Clash of the Titans (1981) - were animated in a way that had never been seen before. Tributes from filmmakers such as Peter Jackson and Aardman Animations, who cite Harryhausen’s importance, will also feature in the exhibition.

Together with daughter, Vanessa Harryhausen, whose personal contributions will be found throughout the exhibition, we’ve selected over 70 objects to bring to Wi******er. They include paintings by artists who were early influencers on Harryhausen’s art and storytelling. Through sketches and original models, the exhibition highlights the inventiveness, incredible artistry and resulting awe of Harryhausen’s career.'

This fall, Verko's Vault: Museum of Fantasy Miniatures opens its doors with a soft launch!

Ray Harryhausen: Miniature Models of the Silver Screen, from The Ray and Diana Harryhausen Foundation, is coming to the Vault. This exhibit features the handcrafted stop-motion models behind some of cinema's most iconic creature sequences, from "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" to "Jason and the Argonauts" and "Clash of the Titans."

Harryhausen's work sits at the root of a tradition that runs directly into our permanent collection: modern fantasy miniatures, historical figure modeling, and high-end cinematic collectibles from Sideshow Collectibles, Queen Studios, and Weta Workshop. The craft evolved, the scale changed, and the materials improved, but the obsession never went away.

Pictured above is Ray Harryhausen himself with Bubo from the classic 1981 film "Clash of the Titans."
