We're just finishing up year two working to save Emerald Spring. This is a 12,000 year old, high-elevation, rare and culturally important spring atop a one-of-a kind sky island mountain range in SE Arizona.

Big shout out to all of our funders - all the good folks at the Catena Foundation, the National Forest Foundation, the US Forest Service and the Quincey Family Trust.

Many, many thanks to all. This important work would not be possible without you! .

Taproot's Sacred Springs Project is a multi-year plan to restore springs and watersheds in the Pinaleno Mountains - a precious desert sky island of singular biodiversity and immense cultural importance. Thanks to funding from the National Forest Foundation, Taproot is conducting pre-mplementation planning for our next site at Grant Hill.

Here crew members assess a massive head-cut just above Big Creek, a high elevation spring that once served as habitat for the endangered Gila trout.

To restore watersheds and forests in the arid sky-island mountain ranges of the southwest, Taproot unites indigenous wisdom with modern science. Here you can see crews employing ancient indigenous water retention designs that use downed logs, rocks and other materials found on site to restore springs. Many thanks to our great funders at the Catena Foundation, US Forest System and the National Forest Foundation. Without you this important work would not happen. .
