On Thursday October 15 the Ratio Christi club will discuss eyes: human and mantis shrimp. In 2011, Trevor Lamb wrote the following in Scientific American: “The eye, far from being a perfectly engineered piece of machinery, exhibits a number of major flaws—these flaws are the scars of evolution. Natural selection does not, as some might think, result in perfection. It tinkers with the material available to it, sometimes to odd effect.” Are eyes a bad design of evolution, or an amazingly good design of a super-intelligent Creator? Mantis shrimp eyes are famous in scientific literature for being able to see circularly polarized light, and the only object in their environment reflecting circularly polarized light is - themselves! How can evolution explain that? I hope to see you there!
