Tucson needs tarps!

Thank you to everyone for getting the word out and donating this last month! With your support, we handed out sandwiches, bottles filled with iced lemonade or water, clothes, bedding, toiletries, and bug spray during our last mutual-ade distribution event 🍋

When we were distributing supplies, we found that many people needed bedding, blankets, and tarps. Recent storms have washed those items away. Cops have also conducted more inhumane sweeps, removing access to places to sleep and rest. In addition, there is a need for water bottles and ice chests. Please consider DMing us if you can spare any of these items. Let’s keep each other safe

In community ✊

It’s Giving Tuesday!!

DMDM (Decentralized Medical Device Manufacturing) and 520 Mutual Aid Network are starting a donation drive for our winter project: Heater bloc 520! Our goal is to build and distribute 50 heater blocs so community members can stay warm at camp this winter. Our fundraising goal is $546.06 by 11/30/23 and any monetary donation you can make will help get us closer to this goal. Tap our LinkTree to contribute: https://linktr.ee/mutualaid520

We’re also accepting material donations. As 6” terracotta pots make for great heat conductors and are the most expensive material, please consider donating spare pots if you have them. A full breakdown of the materials that you can donate and the corresponding bulk cost is listed below:

12 pack of 8 oz Mason Jars X 5 = $70
10 feet of 1/4" copper tubing X 5 = $50
JB Weld X 4 = $48
Rags = $17
Anti-tip plate X 50 = $25
6" Terracotta Pots X 50 = $224.50
10 oz Silicon Caulking X 4 = $65
1/2" chicken wire X 4 = 46.56
Total = $546.06

Let’s help each other stay warm in a city that keeps too many of us unsheltered and cold.

Mutual Aid is a practice of building community in the ways that you can. Earlier this month, 520 Mutual Aid organized a potlatch to celebrate Pueblo Revolt Day. We leaned on community partners, like and , to help us prepare a large batch of food for our event. Mutual Aid is not a perfect practice - nor should it be. Sometimes you plan and prep for a 100+ person event, only to have about 40 people attend (but no worries we divvied and distributed all leftovers). Still, this group of 40 people - we shared a hot meal, learned more about each other, re-distributed supplies, and made some art together.

When you break it down to the basics, which is essentially to share everything so that everyone can have what they need and work together - it doesn't seem too far-fetched. It seems like the golden rule you are taught in grade school. This is a key component of re-indigenizing and rebuilding our world.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this Pueblo Revolt Day potlatch happen! If you want to learn more about getting involved with 520 Mutual Aid or donating, please connect with us via DM. We hope to see you at the next one!

Mutual aid breaks the cycle of toxic individualism and burnout. Doing the work together means we are resisting a system designed to split us apart. When we rely on and work with each other, we are rebuilding trust in one another.

Last month, in addition to handing out individual survival kits, hosted a food and supply distro at three separate locations in one evening. We handed out community donations including clothing, toiletries, and other essential supplies. In respect to the heat, volunteers made fresh squeezed lemonade that we handed out in donated water bottles from , peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fresh fruit and vegetables from , and homemade chocolate eclair cake.

Work together, stay safe, and watch out for your neighbors as the Sonoran desert hits its summer stride. If you have the capacity to volunteer, or you have donations that can help our community, reach out through any of our social platforms. Links in bio.

In solidarity ✊🏽
