Sharing Caysen’s story and this is just the beginning 🫠 It’s important to note that even through all of his toughest days, this little boy remained strong every step of the way. He is a true fighter and continues to conquer.

My hopes in sharing is to help raise awareness not only around the existence of different medical diagnoses and complexities, but to spread light on everything families face while enduring such a challenging journey.

Having a medically complex child is something a parent simply cannot describe. Unless you’ve faced it, you don’t fully understand. Hearing the words “your child may never walk” hits harder than you can imagine. Constantly questioning what you did wrong or even what you didn’t do. Unsure where to turn next or what “surprises” are around the corner as you watch your child endure some of the most intense moments. Wishing you could take their place but knowing you can’t. Today, we are thankful for so many things. For having a medical system that is lifesaving to many. Medical equipment to take over when our bodies need the extra help. Having the skilled and nurturing hands of many nurses, doctors, surgeons, patient care techs, etc all in one place to assure your child receives the top notch care you’re praying for. Seeing your children reunite after months of hospital stays and so much time apart. And then seeing your child not just walk but RUN with all their being after fearing the worst. I can’t help but be thankful for everything. Hallelujah.

Caysen doesn’t just “have a diagnosis.”

He lives with:
🫁 A lung condition that makes it hard to clear mucus
🧠 A brain condition that required surgery
🍽️ A feeding disorder that requires a G-tube
💊 Daily medications and airway treatments

What most people don’t see:

➡️ Appointments, therapies, and constant vigilance

There are no “days off” from this life.

And yet…

He still laughs.

There are moments in life that split your world into before and after.

For us, it began the day Caysen was born.

What should have been a joyful moment quickly turned into fear as his oxygen levels dropped dangerously low… and our newborn was rushed away, fighting to breathe. That was only the beginning.

At just a few months old, Caysen was in and out of the hospital battling infections that wouldn’t go away. Eventually, we learned he was living with a rare genetic condition — Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia — making even something as simple as breathing a daily challenge.

Then came the seizures.
Then the MRI.
Then the words no parent is ever prepared to hear…

Brain malformation.
Hydrocephalus.
Emergency surgery.

At just 1 year old, we handed our baby over for brain surgery — not once, but three times.

We lived in the PICU.
We watched him endure unimaginable pain.
We faced complications, feeding tubes, and diagnoses we had never even heard of.

And yet…

Through it all, Caysen smiled.
He fought.
He showed us what true strength looks like.

Today, Caysen continues to face challenges — from a VP shunt to feeding struggles to Eosinophilic Esophagitis — but he keeps pushing forward with a resilience that inspires everyone who meets him.

And it’s because of him… that Caysen’s Crew was born.

We created this nonprofit so no family walking a complex medical journey feels alone the way we once did. We provide support, financial assistance, and hope to families who are in the fight of their lives for their children.

Because we know what it feels like to sit in that hospital room.
We know the weight of medical bills, fear, and exhaustion.
And we know how much it means when someone shows up for you.
