Another video from the Miners Story Project archives, now on YouTube thanks to Annamarie!

This one is an introduction to the San Manuel mine north of Tucson that operated for 50 years. We'll follow up on this one with a story from Onofre "Taffy" Tafoya who worked at San Manuel!

The San Manuel mine, located north of Tucson, produced millions of tons of copper ore before it closed in 1999. The Miners Story Project interviewed dozens o...

Some of you may remember this one from the exhibit kiosk in the Arizona State Museum's "Set In Stone" exhibit, or from the Bisbee exhibit at the Flandrau Science Center. Still a great story. Enjoy!

It has been a year since we've posted any new content here. But now, thanks to Annamarie Schaecher we're processing all the Miners Story Project "digital stories" that have been sitting unseen on hard drives and we'll be releasing them on YouTube and Facebook - one video a week until we run out. Thanks Annamarie!

The next post will be the first story, many more to come!

On Monday I took a tour of the Resolution Copper Company project in and near Superior, AZ with a service learning class from the UA College of Public Health. Elizabeth Magallanez from Resolution gave us a wonderful guided tour. Thanks Elizabeth! More photos from the tour to follow.

Resolution has also put together a nice history booklet from 16 oral history interviews they did with Superior residents and former underground miners. The underground mine in Superior has been closed since 1982, but a Resolution will be going deep for new copper ore!

This is a great article about the Miners Story Project by Margaret Regan from the UA Alumni Magazine. We aim to post the audio from Rod Carender's story on the MSP Facebook site soon.

When Rod Carender worked underground in the copper mine in San Manuel, north of Tucson, it was so hot he had to wear what the miners called a “popsicle suit.” “The water at the base was 120 degrees,” Carender remembers. “The humidity was 99 percent. When you got out of the cage a heat wave hit
