As an artist, musician, singer, songwriter, video editor, worship leader, or whatever hat I’m wearing, I always get feedback—it makes me better at what I do. Some feedback is positive, and some is negative. When someone gives me feedback, even if I don’t fully agree with it, I always say “thank you.” Even if I don’t fully understand or agree with where they are coming from, they’re sharing their perspective and experience. I appreciate that they were concerned enough and brave enough to tell me what they see. Since I care about people and want to know how the things I do affect them, I always try to keep a humble spirit and an open ear to respond to that person with grace. Never shut down feedback; love starts with listening, and all feedback is useful in some way. It’s good to respond with a non-defensive attitude because most of the time, people are just trying to be helpful, and we have to kill our ego in order to see the bigger picture.
