Continued efforts to connect poultry farmers with practical knowledge and support through community outreach initiatives like Noiler’s Rural Sensitization Program is key to creating a long-term growth and a lasting impact.

WPF knows that sustainable poultry development extends well beyond a program- it requires training, education, and ongoing engagement with farmers. It’s exciting to see these principles continue to create value for poultry communities.

We’re always proud to see the positive impact poultry can have when paired with strong farmer support systems. Learn more about WPF's partnership in Nigeria: https://worldpoultryfoundation.org/initiative/nigeria-pmi/

What does meaningful farmer support look like in practice?

Dennis Sakala of Hybrid Poultry Farm shares his perspective on how the Poultry Multiplication Initiative is helping farmers grow their businesses through access to quality chicks, ongoing technical support, and knowledgeable Field Service Representatives (FSRs).

Stories like these highlight the importance of pairing poultry production with training, mentorship, and hands-on support to help farmers.

Access to quality training plays an important role in building stronger, more sustainable poultry systems.

We’re excited to see recent coverage of the WPF’s partnership with the KZN Poultry Institute (KZNPI), which provides practical, hands-on training for farmers, processors, and poultry professionals. Through courses covering production, processing, flock management, biosecurity, and more, participants gain skills they can apply directly to their businesses and communities.

By investing in knowledge and capacity building, we’re helping strengthen the poultry value chain and create opportunities for long-term growth.

WPF continues to see strong momentum in Senegal alongside our in-country partner Couvoir Amar.

Recent growth in day-old chick production, expanded field support, and continued investment in farmer engagement are helping strengthen poultry systems and expand opportunities for farmers across the country. As the program continues to scale, WPF remains focused on building resilient, sustainable poultry value chains that create long-term impact.

With continued growth and local engagement, the future of poultry development in Senegal is encouraging.

Last Tuesday, the WPF team visited Soldier Fly Technologies in Fresno, California.

This visit was the start to a scoping exercise the WPF is undertaking focused on feed innovation, ultimately aimed at bringing down the cost of production for farmers. One key area of focus for this work is exploring developments in black soldier fly larvae production as an alternative protein source for poultry feed. This emerging technology has the potential to support more sustainable and resilient poultry systems, and could prove crucial in helping birds, and communities, thrive. The WPF is exploring if this production model could be scaled while remaining logistically and financially feasible across key markets in Africa.

As WPF continues to grow, we remain committed to exploring practical, forward-thinking solutions that support farmers and strengthen poultry value chains globally.

As we continue to recognize the International Year of the Woman Farmer, we celebrate the women helping strengthen poultry systems and support their communities.

Across WPF programs, women are building businesses, improving household nutrition, and creating new opportunities through poultry. By supporting access to training, resources, and markets, we are working to ensure more women can succeed across the poultry value chain because when women thrive, communities thrive.

From production to markets, participation across agrifood value chains depends on access to resources & opportunities.

For women farmers, gaps in access continue to shape outcomes.

Closing these gaps is key to more sustainable agrifood systems.

"It allows them to be entrepreneurs, not only to feed themselves and their families, but to grow into small entrepreneurs in their communities."

WPF Board Member Micki Donegan on why dual-purpose poultry changes lives, not just diets.

When farmers have access to the right birds, the right training, and the right support, something bigger happens. They become entrepreneurs. They feed their families. They grow businesses. They transform their communities.
