💜💚 Kicking Off Su***de Prevention & Recovery Month in Pike County!

Today, GMHCN’s Lettie McLarty and Wendell Fields had the opportunity to speak with the Pike County Family Connection Collaborative as we kick off Su***de Prevention Month and Recovery Month across Georgia.

Lettie shared about recovery from a substance use perspective, while Wendell spoke about recovery from a mental health perspective—two different experiences connected by one powerful message: recovery is possible, and hope matters.

We are grateful for opportunities like today that allow us to bring conversations about mental health, substance use, recovery, and su***de prevention directly into our communities.

Applications for Georgia CPS Project Cohorts 119 & 120 close tomorrow, September 4th at 5:00 PM!

If you’re ready to use your lived experience to support others and take the next step toward becoming a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS), don’t miss your opportunity to apply!

📅 Upcoming In-Person Trainings:
Cohort 119: October 26–30, 2026
Cohort 120: November 16–20, 2026

📍 Training Location:
In-person CPS trainings will take place in the Atlanta Metro/Tucker area. The exact location will be provided to individuals once accepted into the training.

🏨 Traveling from outside the area?
For individuals who live more than 60 miles from the training location, double-occupancy hotel rooms will be booked as long as funding allows.

A Morning of Remembrance, Hope & Healing

This September, the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network is bringing our community together in recognition of Su***de Prevention Month and Recovery Month — and we are incredibly honored to welcome internationally recognized su***de prevention advocate Kevin Hines as our keynote speaker.

In September 2000, at just 19 years old, Kevin attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. He survived a fall that very few people have survived and has since dedicated his life to helping others choose life. Today, Kevin is an award-winning mental health and su***de prevention advocate, bestselling author, filmmaker, and international speaker who shares his story of survival, recovery, and resilience with audiences around the world.

Kevin speaks openly about the moment he realized he wanted to live, his continued journey of maintaining his mental wellness, and the importance of reaching out, speaking up, and reminding people that their story does not have to end in their darkest moment. His message, , is one of hope — and we cannot wait for our community to hear it.

Join us September 30, 2026, from 10:00 AM–1:00 PM in Tucker, Georgia, as we remember those we have lost, celebrate recovery, connect our community with resources, and remind one another that hope is real and recovery is possible.

This is more than an event. It is a morning to remind people that their lives matter.

Earlier this week, GMHCN Chief Executive Officer James Todd and Director of Peer Services Christi Burdeshaw represented the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network at the 2026 Georgia School of Addiction Studies Conference in Savannah!

The conference brought together professionals from across Georgia’s behavioral health, addiction, and recovery communities for learning, connection, and collaboration.

The Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network team had an amazing time attending the Georgia Council for Recovery’s 2026 Georgia Recovers in Communities Bus Tour Kickoff at Truist Park!

It was incredible to come together with recovery advocates, peers, partners, and communities from across Georgia to celebrate recovery, connection, and the power of lived experience.

We’re proud to stand alongside so many organizations and individuals working every day to remind Georgians that recovery is possible—and that no one has to walk the journey alone.

Another successful WRAPÂŽ Seminar I Training at GMHCN!

This past week, participants came together for a week of learning, connection, and growth through Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAPÂŽ) Seminar I. We are grateful for everyone who showed up ready to learn, share, and build tools that support wellness and recovery.

A special thank you to our amazing facilitators, Donda Bridges and Wendell Fields, for the knowledge, experience, and energy they brought to the training.

And, of course, a huge thank you to our very own Denise Hardy for her continued leadership, dedication, and all of the hard work she puts into GMHCN’s WRAP® Program and trainings. The work that happens behind the scenes makes opportunities like this possible, and we appreciate all that you do!

Today some of GMHCN’s Moultrie Team had the opportunity to attend the Grand Opening of t, Inc. in Moultrie, Georgia, a meaningful community event focused on bringing people and resources together and creating opportunities for hope and growth.

The celebration marked the opening of a new community-centered space designed to help connect individuals and families with resources, support, and opportunities. The event brought community members together to celebrate this exciting new chapter and the positive impact The Hub hopes to make.

With its mission of “Helping People. Uniting Communities. Building Hope,” the event was more than just a grand opening—it was a celebration of community, collaboration, service, and the belief that people are stronger when they have access to the support they need.
