Garrett Loudin as Joe E. Brown
Born and raised in Woodstock, Ga., Garrett, grew up doing community theatre “since before I even knew how to read,” he says. “My mom would read my lines out loud to me and I'd memorize them that way. “I've been in several dozen shows throughout my lifetime.” Among them were roles in Main Street Theatre’s productions of “Charlotte’s Web” and “Murder, Inc. Unscripted.” Up next, he plays old-school movie legend Joe E. Brown in “Shakespeare in Hollywood,” scheduled for the weekends of April 24-26 and May 1-3 at the Tucker Recreation Center, 4898 LaVista Rd., Tucker.

The Ken Ludwig play is set in 1934, and Warner Brothers is filming an adaptation of Shakespeare’s fantasy-comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Two of the play’s fictional characters from Shakespeare’s day, Oberon and Puck, transcend time and space to magically appear on set. They interact with the movie’s human stars and end up being cast to play themselves in the film. Aided by a powerful "love flower" from their magical forest, Oberon and Puck upend film production with romantic entanglements, chaos and confusion with unexpected comedic results.

“Joe E. Brown is a beloved 1930s character actor who's a bit apprehensive about having to play a woman in ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream,’” Garrett explains, “and he's beginning to think there might be something screwy going on with his fellow cast and crew.” But there’s been nothing screwy about working with director Sharyn and the large cast of “Shakespeare in Hollywood,” according to Garrett, who has spent the past decade working in Atlanta radio. “She’s a fantastic director, and the whole cast has become fast friends. I love acting because it's a great way to build friendships and community. Plus, I just never grew out of loving to play pretend!”

Turner Smith as Albert Warner
In his first appearance on the Main Street Theatre stage, Turner assumes the ensemble role of Albert Warner, an executive of Warner Brothers Studio, in “Shakespeare in Hollywood.” The play will be performed the weekends of April 24- 26 and May 1-3 at the Tucker Recreation Center, 4898 LaVista Rd., Tucker.

The Ken Ludwig play is set in 1934, when Warner Brothers is filming an adaptation of Shakespeare’s fantasy-comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Two of the play’s characters from Shakespeare’s day, Oberon and Puck, transcend time and space to magically appear on set. They interact with the movie’s stars and end up being cast to play themselves in the film. Aided by a powerful "love flower" from their magical forest, Oberon and Puck upend film production with romantic entanglements, chaos and confusion with unpredictable comedic results.

“I’m having so much fun with this role,” says Turner, a dancer who off-stage enjoys driving and video games. His favorite parts in previous theatrical performances include Cosmo in “Singing in the Rain,” Finch in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and Creon in “Agatha Rex.”

The curtain rises for “Shakespeare in Hollywood” at 7:30 p.m. for Friday and Saturday performances, and Sunday shows begin at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students.

Christa Sfameni as Louella Parsons
Once upon a time, Louella Parsons was arguably the most powerful person in Hollywood. “She had a sharp eye for a story, a deep network of industry connections, and a reputation for shaping public opinion with just a few lines in print, making or breaking a star's career,” says Christa of the legendary gossip columnist, whom she
portrays in Main Street Theatre’s upcoming production of Ken Ludwig’s “Shakespeare in Hollywood.”
“Beneath the glamour and confidence, there’s also a fascinating complexity,” Christa adds. “She was ambitious, strategic and protective of her place in a male-dominated
industry.”
The play blends Shakespearean fantasy with a fictionalized account of a real 1934 Warner Brothers adaptation of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Characters Oberon and Puck transcend time to appear on set, where they're cast to play themselves. Armed with a magical "love flower," they upend production with romantic chaos and laughable confusion.
Christa has been diving into the history of Hollywood’s Golden Age and studying Louella Parson’s writing style, voice and presence. “I want to capture her boldness and poise so she feels authentic and larger than life. I’m having fun with this role! Louella is witty, commanding and unapologetically herself, which makes her exciting to play. There’s something thrilling about stepping into the shoes of someone who had so much influence and personality.”
Christa’s numerous MST credits encompass roles in "The Odd Couple (female version)," "Smoke on the Mountain," "Sanders Family Christmas,” "Second Samuel," “Steel Magnolias” and “Women Playing Hamlet.” She has also worked as a director and other crew roles and serves as vice president of the board.
“Audiences will love this play because it offers a behind-the- scenes look at the drama, glamour, and intrigue of classic Hollywood,” she says. “It’s full of funny characters and sharp dialogue. Whether you love theater, history or a bit of juicy storytelling, there’s something in it for everyone.”

Adam Bourne as Dick Powell
During Hollywood’s Golden Age, Dick Powell was a heartthrob and top box office draw. Adam plays the storied actor in Main Street Theatre’s production of Ken Ludwig’s “Shakespeare in Hollywood.” “He is effortlessly handsome and charismatically confident, without sacrificing his unwavering politeness and natural charm,” says Adam of his character. “He isn't going to let his unfamiliarity with Shakespeare stand in the way of delivering an A+ performance even if he falls in love with an upstart starlet in the process.”
"Shakespeare in Hollywood" blends Shakespearean fantasy with a fictionalized account of a real 1934 Warner Brothers adaptation of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Characters Oberon and Puck transcend time to appear on set, where they're cast to play themselves. Armed with a magical "love flower," they upend production with romantic chaos and laughable confusion.
“The cast our director, Sharyn, has assembled is outstanding,” says Adam. “Most of us were strangers to each other, but from the first table read, everyone felt the chemistry and was able to lock-in on how they wanted to bring their character to life.”
Adam, who’s “living the dream” as a stay-at-home dad with a furniture building and woodworking side hustle, grew up in Gwinnett County, where he honed his acting chops at Berkmar High School in Lilburn. Adam’s stage credits embrace a variety of genres: Drama (“A Man for All Seasons”), Shakespeare (“A Midsummer Night's Dream,” “Much Ado About Nothing”), comedies (“The Odd Couple,” “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” “See How They Run”) and musicals (“Grease,” “Mame,” “Guys and Dolls”). Most recently, he played John Arable in Main Street Theater's production of “Charlotte's Web,” alongside his daughter, Adelaide, in her first stage acting role.

Showtimes at 7:30 p.m. for Friday and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students.

Caitlin Syfrett as hair/makeup/wardrobe manager, paparazzo, starlet
“Shakespeare in Hollywood” is Caitlin’s first “straight” play. “I've always done musicals, so this is a nice first, and a comedy at that,” she says. “It's been a lot of fun working on something familiar and yet entirely new to me.”
“Shakespeare in Hollywood” blends Shakespearean fantasy and comedy with a fictionalized account of an actual motion picture production. The year is 1934, and Warner Brothers Studio is filming an adaptation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Two fictional characters from Shakespeare’s script, Oberon and Puck, transcend time and space to magically appear on set. They interact with the movie’s famous human stars and end up being cast to play themselves in the film. Aided by a powerful "love flower" from their magical forest, Oberon and Puck upend film production with romantic entanglements, chaos and confusion with unpredictable comedic results.

Caitlin’s previous performance experience involved singing and dancing in the musicals “Gypsy,” “Mame” and “The Lovely Sounds of Christmas.” “In high school I was also in a play called ‘How to Eat Like a Child,’” she adds. An archaeologist and gaming content creator, Caitlin grew up in Albany, Ga., where everyone in her family was involved in the local community theatre, Theatre Albany.
“My brother did sound and lights, my dad was sometimes in plays, my sister was in plays, my mom worked box office and concessions, and if I wasn't on stage, I’d be volunteering as an usher.” And while it’s her first time at the Tucker Rec stage before an audience, she is familiar with Main Street Theatre as a frequent audience member and occasional volunteer.
By coincidence, she happened to be helping with the prop closet on the day of auditions for “Shakespeare in Hollywood” and was invited to try out. “I had not planned to audition, but I thought it couldn’t hurt – then lo and behold I ended up with a role!” she declares. “I'm excited that my return to the stage is with Main Street Theatre!”

Ben Stokes as Oberon
Ben takes the Main Street Theatre stage in the role of Oberon in Ken Ludwig’s “Shakespeare in Hollywood.”
It’s 1934, and Warner Brothers Studio is filming an adaptation of Shakespeare’s fantasy-comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Two of the fictional characters from Shakespeare’s day, Oberon and Puck, transcend place and time to magically appear on set. They interact with the movie’s famous stars and end up being cast to play themselves in the film. Oberon and Puck upend film production by instigating romantic entanglements, chaos and confusion with comedic results. “Oberon is the powerful and temperamental king of Fairyland,” Ben elaborates. “Typically a force of nature guiding the story in old myths and plays, this time he's out of his element and forced to adapt to a world he knows nothing about, learning more about humanity in the process.” The role has brought challenges, he says. “Aside from trying to memorize long stanzas in iambic rhyme scheme that use authentic Elizabethan verbiage, and doing it in a way that seems regal and commanding, the hardest part has been not tripping on the cloak. It takes lots and lots of practice — including a practice cloak.”
While this is his first performance with Main Street Theater, “I've had the privilege of working with our director, Sharyn, in the past,” Ben notes. In addition, “I've been lucky to work with many local theaters, including two productions of ‘A Midsummer Night's Dream’ which helped prepare me for much of the dialogue in this play.” He adds, “I've always been drawn to Shakespeare and other historical plays for the challenge of being able to bring out the inherent drama, comedy and emotion in these brilliant scripts in a way modern audiences can enjoy. There's no feeling like listening to crowds laugh at jokes that made audiences laugh 500 years earlier, like we're traveling back through time.”

Kym Barrett as cameraman, actress, seamstress
“Audiences will love how absurd the play becomes as everything falls apart around the characters, but also find themselves surprised by the moments of true heartfulness that can only be felt in a moment of calm after the dust settles,” says Kym, an ensemble cast member who plays three parts in Main Street Theatre’s production of “Shakespeare in Hollywood.”
The Ken Ludwig play takes place in 1934, when Warner Brothers is filming an adaptation of Shakespeare’s fantasy-comedy, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Two of the play’s fictional characters from Shakespeare’s day, Oberon and Puck, transcend time and space to magically appear on set. They interact with the movie’s famous human stars and end up being cast to play themselves in the film. Aided by a powerful "love flower" from their magical forest, Oberon and Puck upend film production with romantic entanglements, chaos and confusion with unpredictable comedic results.
“I read the script and thought the play sounded so funny that I wanted to be a part
of it,” Kym says. In previous work with Main Street Theatre, she took the community theatre stage for the first time as Anne in “Death By Chocolate.” The Wisconsin native also performed in “Charlotte's Web” and, most recently, “Murder, Inc. Unscripted”
