5.2.23 PUBLIC NOTICE UPDATES FROM THE NAVAJO NATION EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTER (EOC) FOR THOSE IMPACTED BY THE FLOODING IN CHINLE, AZ.

--The Emergency Operation Center will be open on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 to Friday, May 5, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Navajo Nation Emergency Operation Call Center (928) 383-7121.

--The American Red Cross shelter IS CLOSED. However, the American Red Cross will continue feeding affected families of the Chinle flooding until Friday, May 5, 2023. The last meal that will served will be lunch at 11:00 a.m.

--If any assistance is needed from the American Red Cross, please contact the Navajo Nation Emergency Operation Call Center (928) 383-7121.

—The Chinle Chapter House is starting to clean the impacted flood areas. They will be cutting up the trees, picking up debris, and cleaning up washed out roads reported to Chinle Chapter House. They are also still conducting home assessments. For more information, call Chinle Chapter House at (928) 674-2052.

--On Thursday, April 27, 2023, there was a Flood Warning issued for Chinle, Arizona, by the National Weather Service, Flagstaff, Arizona. As of Tuesday, May 2, 2023, the Flood Warning is downgraded to a Flood Advisory.

--The Apache County Roads Department is aware of the road wash out on County Road 566, in Many Farms, Arizona. The Apache County Road crew is on site. The community is urged to use caution in the area. For more additional information or questions, please call Apache County District 1 at (928) 674-5664.

--TOURISTS : If you are traveling within the Canyon De Chelly Visitors Center, this is within a flood zone and please be aware of the recent flooding in the area. The Canyon De Chelly Monument is temporarily CLOSED, until the Navajo Nation of State of Emergency is lifted.

--Temperatures will be slightly cooler today as a trough drops down through the Four Corners region.
--Highs will top out in the 60s across the higher elevations and into the 70s and 80s in the lower elevations and valleys.
--North to northeast winds will gust around 30 to 40 mph across eastern portions of Arizona this morning before starting to drop off this afternoon and evening. The highest gusts will be downwind of the southward facing terrain.

The Chinle District is providing the following road conditions:

9:15 a.m./April 28, 2023

Just a reminder there is a road closure starting from the Jehovah Witness Church turnoff, going east to the junction of Navajo Route 7 and Navajo Route 64, for NDOT to continue construction work. This road closure will be today, Friday, April 28, 2023, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The road will be impassable with the exception of emergency vehicles only. Please find alternative routes to take. It is recommended to take Navajo Route 12 to US 191 into Chinle, A.Z.

4.27.23 PUBLIC NOTICE FROM THE NAVAJO NATION EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTER (EOC) FOR THOSE IMPACTED BY THE FLOODING IN CHINLE, AZ

CHINLE, Ariz. – The Navajo Nation Division of Behavioral and Mental Health Services (DBMHS) is offering counseling services to those who are affected by flooding impacts. DBMHS staff was available today and will be available tomorrow, April 28, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to help those who need counseling due to the severe impacts the flooding has caused. A DBMHS traditional practitioner, will also be on site to assist.

“We understand that at some point, someone is going to have a crisis even after hours, you don’t know when they are going to have anxiety attack, because everybody is different,” stated Peggy Francis, counselor for the DBMHS Shiprock Outpatient Services. “I am available by phone twenty-four hours. My specialty is youth counseling.” stated Francis.
