Attend a free workshop "An Introduction to Mushroom Farming" on Friday, March 27, from 9 a.m.-noon at Fort Bend County Extension Service, 1402 Band Road, Rosenberg. The workshop will be in the large conference room. The workshop will start with choosing the right spores to harvesting your first batch. Registration is required. Join us in welcoming People Growing Together to the TorC & Sierra County Chamber!

They are working to combat food insecurity in Sierra County through sustainable agriculture, education, and strong community collaboration. Their efforts include building healthy soil, developing water-smart gardens, and creating Earth Battery greenhouses designed to thrive in the high-desert climate.

Through youth programs, accessible raised-bed gardening for older adults, and year-round organic food production, People Growing Together empowers individuals and families to grow their own food and build long-term resilience. Their partnerships with local organizations, food access initiatives, and community spaces are helping ensure more residents have access to fresh, nutritious produce.

We are looking for ten young people in T or C who do their chores, because they are learning responsibility. If you are someone who is interested in nature, how plants grow, and would like to learn from a master gardener, the best way to be successful is to take People Growing Together's ten-day course, spread over ten weeks, made just for you. Successful completion results in a Certificate in Sustainable Organic Growing. No student turned away for lack of funds. Applications are available by calling 575-894-2333 or cell 516-506-8088.

Some details on the SOGC course: Students will have 3 hours of lab with each subject. This is where the real learning begins: hands-on, in the soil. We will research "seeds from space" that have been to the Space Station, and plant communication. The student will be able to design and construct a growing area for a Sierra County community member, learning leadership and organizational skills, working as a team, and working with nature. Topics: Gardening in the desert, soil building, water saving, basic botany, integrated pest management, growing a variety of vegetables, garden maintenance, and seed collecting. Organic growers practice caring for the soil, cover cropping, composting, no-till methods, non-toxic pest management, and field and crop rotation. NOVEMBER 15, SATURDAY NIGHT PGT FUNRAISER CANCELLED.
Someone just called to see if it was on. We'll do one in late March to celebrate the first Greenhouse harvest!
In late September we had planned to have a fund raising dinner at the HighSchool, but cancelled it soon after, because we had so much to do to complete the building of the Greenhouse
