Where does local food come from?

Students from Truro Central School found out firsthand during their visit to the Truro Farmers' Market last Monday! Alongside another great week at our Truro and Provincetown markets, it was wonderful to see community members of all ages connecting with local farmers and food producers.

BIG NEWS!

A new 2025 case study from the Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation highlights our Food is Medicine (FIM) program as an example of how local food systems can address food insecurity and diet-related illness while creating economic opportunities for local food producers.

The produce photo? That's from yesterday's FIM delivery across the Cape—another box of locally grown produce, locally sourced proteins, recipes, and nutrition support made its way directly to food insecure households managing chronic health conditions.

Our FIM program works in partnership with healthcare providers to ensure community members have access to nutritious foods tailored to their health needs. At the same time, the program creates reliable markets for local farmers and fishermen, helping keep healthcare dollars circulating within the local economy.

We're grateful to our healthcare partners C3 - Community Care Cooperative, Outer Cape Health Services, Duffy Health Center, Community Health Center food producers, funders, volunteers, staff, & patients who make this work possible every week.

A big thank you to Farm Credit East, ACA for their continued support of the Truro and Provincetown Farmers’ Markets!

Farm Credit East’s partnership helps us grow vibrant community marketplaces and food hubs across the Outer Cape—connecting families, seniors, veterans, residents, and visitors with fresh, healthy, locally grown and harvested food. By bringing local farmers, fishers, and producers directly together with the community, we’re helping strengthen both our regional food system and the local economy.

Thanks to their generosity, we’re able to better serve the people who grow, catch, and provide our food while expanding access to nutritious local products for all.

We’re so grateful to Farm Credit East for investing in the farmers’ markets that are vital in nourishing and sustaining our communities.
