We're very excited!
Our reissue of Hazel Hawthorne's "Salt House" is featured on this Lost Ladies of Lit podcast! It's a great discussion about Hazel, her 1934 novel, and her time out in the Provincetown dunes with other writers and artists.
Lost Ladies of Lit co-hosts, Kim Askew and Amy Helmes, spoke with Provincetown Arts board member Livia Tenzer and Hazel Hawthorne archives steward Allison Bass-Riccio.

Allison Bass-Riccio, steward of the Hazel Hawthorne archives, read from Provincetown Arts Press’s re-issue of Salt House as part of an event at the Mary Heaton Vorse House Friday, Sept. 5. During the event, called “Naming SALLY” and put on by the SALLY Project, audience members presented short biographies of Provincetown women and shared their own stories of women in the community.
The SALLY Project uses art to activate the public memory of women, like Sally Hemings, the enslaved woman inherited by Thomas Jefferson, whose lives have been erased or marginalized.
The event took place in conjunction with an art exhibition at the Vorse House called “On the Edge,” which focuses on diversity, equity and inclusion and will hang through Sept. 21.
You can buy a copy of Salt House at local bookstores or at provincetownarts.org.
