Recycling guidelines can be confusing, especially when it comes to bulky, rigid plastics as many of these items have a chasing arrows, triangle symbol so we think they are accepted in our curbside, mixed recycling, but they are trash.

The chasing arrows, triangle symbol with a number inside only indicates the type of resin used to make the plastic, not if an item can be recycled in CT’s mixed recycling, so they no longer should be used to determine if an item can be recycled.

Bully, rigid plastics are too large for our sorting machines so should be donated, reused, or placed in the trash.
