As stepping stone Sanctuary steps boldly into 2026 it’s with great gratitude and love that I extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every church and volunteer who stepped into the mission of caring for the vulnerable and their families.

Just this year, Stepping stone has served more than 10 families with small children who are all now living independently and are gainfully employed. They have found their forever churches and their own homes. A total of 14 residents including women and children, were successfully placed into their forever homes, with jobs to support independent living, along with mental health supports outside of our facility to continue encouraging healthy habits and long term independence. Mammas who were worried about losing their children, now sleep peacefully in their own home this winter- no longer living day to day at the local hotel.

We’re anticipating more milestones coming 2026 and we could use your help to continue serving those who desperately need us.

Maegan and her children lost their home in a fire last year. She struggled with barriers that would have most of us questioning the goodness of God and ready to quit- but God wasn’t finished.

Maegan and her children will sleep in their own place for the first time in nearly a year. Her favorite part of her new home is the prayer closet she trusted God to provide. In her own words “I opened the closet and couldn’t believe how big it was. I finally have my prayer closet.”

Melissa’s story is one of survival and hope 💜

“I was homeless for 8 years. My life took an unexpected turn at 41, and I couldn’t find the help I needed to turn it back around. People were so harsh because I was just a homeless woman to them. I often wondered how well the people who looked down on me would do if they were in my shoes for just one week. How sober could they stay in an unfamiliar place with nothing but the clothes on their back? No phone, no identity, no safe people. What would they do to survive? It wasn’t even safe to fall asleep. I ran all night from 3 men who attacked me near a Mission center. I ran until daylight and collapsed on the front steps of a funeral home.

I wanted to report it, but who cares to know what a homeless woman suffers? “Get a job.” “Figure it out.” But how do you get a job without an ID? How do you get an ID without an address? I was laying on those funeral home steps in the middle of the day, and it didn’t even cross my mind that someone would see me- I couldn’t see me.

God met me there, and I pray many blessings for the woman who stopped to help me that day. I know she didn’t do it for the thanks. She probably thought she wasn’t doing much but giving me a ride, but God used her to save my life. I’m so thankful to God for pulling me out of the pit. I’m thankful God led me to Stepping Stone. I know I’m safe now.”

“I’m safe.” 💜

Melissa will sleep safely in her own home tonight for the first time in 8 years! We’ll miss this beautiful woman, but she assures us that she plans to volunteer at Stepping Stone to help others find their way to Jesus, to find healing, and a place of their own to call home. 🏡
