Hi All,
Please meet Deanna, Faith, Jeannie, Andy, Gentry and Lenny. All are Pekingese and were born November 18, 2025. They range in weight from 9 lbs to 11 lbs. They are breeder turn ins due to kennel downsizing. All will be available the latter part of June after full vetting. You can find our adoption application at www.pekeatzurescuemichigan.com. Also any donations to help with vetting expenses are surely welcome and can be sent to www.paypal.com and paid to www.pekeatzurescueinmichigan.com or you can mail donation to Peke A Tzu Rescue, PO Box 1, Trufant, MI 49347.
All are currently in puppy cuts.
We are offering you some information for we know many who visit us love the Shih Tzu. We wanted to give you a bit of a comparison between the Pekingese and the Shih Tzu. We love both of the breeds dearly, but of course there are some differences.
If you meet both breeds in one afternoon, the Pekingese usually leaves a “small dog with a big opinion” impression. There is a slow, proud feel to many of them. They can be affectionate, but they often hand out affection on their own terms. That old court-dog attitude still shows.
The Shih Tzu tends to feel softer in manner. Many are cheerful little hosts who want to be in the middle of home life. They still have a stubborn streak, yet their social style is often lighter and more easygoing. That can make them feel less intense than a Pekingese, even when both are standing still under a long coat.
That said, shared roots do not erase their different moods. A family that loves a bright, outgoing lap dog may lean toward the Shih Tzu. A person who likes a tiny dog with a proud, cat-like streak may fall hard for the Pekingese. Neither choice is “better.” The fit depends on the home and the owner’s patience with grooming.
