Friends of the Truckee Library

Friends of the Truckee Library There is no governmental entity – including the State of California or Nevada County – that has an obligation to provide libraries for communities.

The Friends of the Truckee Library is an incorporated, non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our library. The Friends of the Truckee Library is an incorporated, non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our library. It has been the historical role for the Friends of the Truckee Library to advocate for and raise the funds to sustain our library and keep it open.

The Friends have been instrumental in securing 75% of the funding for library operations, through spearheading two sales tax campaigns that have resulted in 20 years of additional library funding. While Nevada County provides some staffing and operational support, they would not be able to provide the same level of service or additional enhancements without the ongoing support and advocacy of Friends of the Truckee Library. The Friends raise funds through used book sales and events to provide materials for children’s programming, community cultural events, adult literacy programs, and purchasing monthly best sellers which assures to assure that current literature is readily available to Truckee patrons.

The new Truckee Regional Library has support from more than 40 local nonprofits and agencies, including California State Parks.

Why? Because this project is about more than books. It’s about creating flexible, accessible community space for the people and organizations who serve Truckee every day.

“We share an interest in fostering learning opportunities, access to information and resources, and a place where our community can gather. With more flexible space, the library can develop partnerships to meet the growing demands of fields such as technology, healthcare, education, and outdoor recreation.”

A great library helps a whole community learn, connect, and grow.

A grassroots movement starts with everyday people.

It grows from neighbors, families, students, educators, volunteers, and community members who care enough to step up and help create change from the ground up.

That is exactly what is happening with the new Truckee Library.

This project is being powered by people across our community who believe Truckee deserves a welcoming, flexible, future-ready library. From student-led fundraisers to school auctions, volunteer booths, community workshops, and local advocacy, support is building one person at a time.

Still picturing a library as just rows of books and whispering?

Modern libraries do a whole lot more.

They support early learning, provide access to technology, host programs and meetings, create space for connection, and help people find the resources they need.

That is why the future Truckee Library matters. It is not just a new building. It is an investment in a flexible, welcoming community resource designed for the way Truckee lives, learns, and gathers.

A little spring fun is waiting in the kids’ room 🌷

Stop by the Truckee Library for the Spring Baby Animals Scavenger Hunt. Kids can search the room for all 8 baby animal photos, check them off as they go, and collect a prize when they’re done.

It’s a sweet, simple way to explore the library, spend some time with books, and keep little ones busy on a spring day.
