Friends of the Truckee Library There is no governmental entity – including the State of California or Nevada County – that has an obligation to provide libraries for communities.

The Friends of the Truckee Library is an incorporated, non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our library.The Friends of the Truckee Library is an incorporated, non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our library. It has been the historical role for the Friends of the Truckee Library to advocate for and raise the funds to sustain our library and keep it open. The Friends have been instrumental in securing 75% of the funding for library operations, through spearheading two sales tax campaigns that have resulted in 20 years of additional library funding. While Nevada County provides some staffing and operational support, they would not be able to provide the same level of service or additional enhancements without the ongoing support and advocacy of Friends of the Truckee Library. The Friends raise funds through used book sales and events to provide materials for children’s programming, community cultural events, adult literacy programs, and purchasing monthly best sellers which assures to assure that current literature is readily available to Truckee patrons.

PG&E’s planned Public Safety Power Shutoff is expected to affect Kingvale, Soda Springs and Norden through 7 a.m. Saturday, October 17. Timing may change, so check PG&E’s Outage Map for the latest updates.

Need additional support? Call 211 to connect with local resources, including possible assistance for PG&E customers who rely on electricity for medical needs.

A space for Truckee teens, shaped by Truckee teens. 📚

Years of input from local young people helped guide the new Truckee Regional Library’s Teen Room, a dedicated place to gather, study, collaborate and spend time together.

Their ideas helped shape details including group-study seating and gaming. Now, as construction documents move forward, the project team is working through how that space will function.

The Teen Room is becoming a real room, with the voices of the young people who will use it reflected in the plans.

Truckee asked for a library that reflects its commitment to sustainability. Here’s how that’s taking shape. 🌲

The new Truckee Regional Library’s design makes extensive use of mass timber, including cross-laminated timber. It creates a warm, welcoming space while storing carbon within the building’s structure.

Mass timber can also put wood removed through forest-health and wildfire-fuel-reduction work to use in long-lasting building materials.

The sustainability plans extend throughout the project: rooftop solar, abundant natural light, energy-efficient systems, water-efficient landscaping and a planned demonstration garden.

These community priorities are becoming part of the detailed plans that will guide construction.

A lot happens before you see a shovel! Nearly a year ago, Truckee said yes to a new regional library. Since Measure G passed in November 2025, work has been moving forward. 📚

There may not be excavators yet, but plenty is happening behind the scenes.

JKAE and Group 4 Architecture, alongside the Town of Truckee, Nevada County and Friends of the Truckee Library, are developing detailed construction documents for agency review, permitting and bidding.

That means getting specific: Where will people gather and study? How will indoor air stay clean during wildfire smoke? Where will someone plug in a laptop?

Each decision builds on years of community input about how this library should serve Truckee. Follow along for a closer look at the people, plans and priorities shaping the new Truckee Regional Library!

Spooky season calls for a curious checkout! Truckee Library’s Ghost Box and EMF Meter Kit includes tools for measuring electromagnetic fields and temperature, a ghost box for attempted spirit communication, and a flashlight for exploring.

A familiar face. A conversation over a shared book. Something to look forward to each week. 📚

A 2025 study of Suffolk Libraries in England found that people who used the library more frequently reported feeling more socially connected. Participants also reported improved well-being and life satisfaction after taking part in library activity groups.

It’s a reminder of how much a welcoming community space can offer.

Those everyday opportunities to connect are part of the vision behind a larger, modern library. We're working toward a place with more room to learn, participate, and spend time together.

What a night!

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for An Evening with Friends of the Truckee Library and helped make the evening such a success. We’re so grateful for the generosity, enthusiasm, and community spirit that continues to move the New Truckee Regional Library forward.

We loved seeing so many friends and supporters come together to celebrate what we’re building for our community. Here are a few favorite moments from the night!
