Hi All,
Many of you have waited as long to read this email as I have to write it. This community, which never ceases to amaze, has hit the fundraising goal of $250K to complete the Truckee Aquatic Center with the addition of the warm water pool! The Rec District Board voted today to award the contract so it’s now official.
Where do I even begin on the list of people and organizations to thank? I can’t possibly cover everyone in a brief email but allow me to list some of the key players and please know that everyone reading this has played a role in making this happen.
First off I’d like to recognize several public agencies including the Town of Truckee, the Fire District, the PUD, the School District and of course the incredible generosity of the Truckee Tahoe Airport District.
Thanks go out to both the board and staff of the Rec District including Amanda Oberacker, Steve Randall as well as both past and current boards. One board member in particular stands out, having bourn the full weight of the project. Without Kevin Murphy’s steady, no nonsense leadership the Truckee Aquatic Center would be little more than a topic of conversation.
There are many private organizations and individuals that have stepped up to the plate; without their support we wouldn’t be here. Since I want to get this email out and I don’t have a complete list at my disposal I’ll have to leave it as a blanket “thank you” for now. That being said, Jim Morrison’s Kawyha Foundation has been the difference maker. Without their initial contribution of $200K this project would have died in February. Without their matching funds of $250K, the warm water pool would have been delayed for who knows how long. I believe this facility where young and old will gather to recreate, compete, exercise, socialize and rehabilitate will serve as a fitting tribute to Jim’s family.
Finally, I’d like to thank my family, in particular my wife Pam, for supporting me on this journey. I’ll have to admit there were a few times it felt a little Quixotic, but it’s quite an amazing feeling to have reached the summit with all of you.
I’ll keep you posted periodically on the progress of the center.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at the pool!
Thanks,
Dan Kates
