Jibboomstreet Toastmasters - Area 13, Division A, District 39 We are a diverse group of fun-loving folks dedicated to improving ourselves and helping others, especially in the areas of communication and leadership.

Holding our meetings at 7:30 - 8:30 a.m. allows us to start the day off right – with camaraderie, and confidence. What's in it for you? ally. You join a community of learners, and in Toastmasters meetings we learn by doing. Whether you're an executive or a stay-at-home parent, a college student or a retiree, you will improve yourself; building skills to express yourself in a variety of situations. You'll open up a world of new possibilities: giving better work presentations; leading meetings - and participating in them - more confidently; speaking more smoothly off the cuff; even handling one-on-one interactions with family, friends and colleagues more positively. How does it work? The environment in a Toastmasters club is friendly and supportive. Everyone at a Toastmasters meeting feels welcome and valued - from complete beginners to advanced speakers. In a club meeting, you practice giving prepared speeches as well as brief impromptu presentations, known as Table Topics. There is no rush and no pressure: The Toastmasters program allows you to progress at your own pace. Constructive evaluation is central to the Toastmasters philosophy. Each time you give a prepared speech, an evaluator will point out strengths as well as suggest improvements. Receiving - and giving - such feedback is a great learning experience. Anyone who is a strong leader has to first be an effective communicator. In Toastmasters you will hone your speaking skills, and you will develop leadership abilities - through evaluations, listening, mentoring, serving as club officers and filling roles in club meetings. You will take those leadership skills out into the world, running businesses, mentoring youths, organizing fund-raisers, coaching teams and heading up families. Come visit us! You won't regret it. Congratulation's to our Table Topics Club Contest winners Heather (first place), Amy (runner up) and Jim K. (third place).
The jury decided, those three presented the best impromptu speeches with the topic "My Best Friend..."
This must have been a hard decision as every contestant did a wonderful job.

A huge thank you to all our participants and volunteers who helped making our Club Contest a successful event!

Heather and Amy are going to represent the Jibboomstreet Toastmasters Club at the Area 13 Contest on Thursday, March 19 at 6 pm in the Truckee PUD.

Even though we did not have a theme for this meeting, it was all about happiness and food!

Jim K. started with a wonderful Positive Mental Attitude:
„The only person you should try to be better than is the person you were yesterday.“

Veronica brought a joke: "What do you call a pig that does karate? A Pork chop!" :)

Table Topics Master Jim K. choose „culinary“ to be the word of the day and the Table Topic speakers shared their most memorable food related experiences with us. Funny and yummy! :)

Our speaker #1 Peter presented his second project from the Competent Communicator Manual. In his speech „Success through a nontraditional source“ he explained, that looking up to another person doesn't necessarily lead to success in life. In fact, we do should look up to our tail wagging friends: Dogs appreciate every little thing every day. The secret recipe to happiness and success!

Jim S., our second speaker and working on project #5 from the Humorous Speech Manual, also shared a recipe with us: "The Green Drink". Armed with gloves and goggles as well as a blender and healthy ingredients, Jim presented in a humorous way, how to create a delicious and nutritious smoothie. Of course, we all did get to taste it!

Carmen's creativity seems to be endless, when it comes to different room set up. The meeting really is a whole new challenge, if you just can't sit in your usual comfort zone! Thanks for that, Carmen!

SNOW!! What a wonderful meeting theme - and a powerful message to the current weather conditions: We will stay optimistic and winter will eventually come! Carmen decorated the room with cute handcraftet paper snowflakes and gave us an outlook on how our beautiful little mountain town will look again pretty soon!

Heather quoted Maya Angelo for her positive mental attitude:
"I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

Table Topics Master Carmen choose with "Snowflakes" a perfectly matching Word of the Day and we got to hear exciting snow stories from our Table Topics participants.

Speaker #1, Jim, finished his first project from the Entertaining Speaker Manual and managed to deliver a very serious topic in a very funny way. Anyone still afraid of turning 50 and getting the first colonoscopy?

Linda, our speaker #2 and working on project #9 from the Competent Communication Manual, persuaded us, that we all have to add one more important thing to our daily to-do-lists, that is usually missing: Nothing!

Another great meeting with such a positive energy flow - thank you, fellow Toastmasters!

On occasion of the upcoming Super Bowl, Tabletopics Master Stacey choose famous sport events the US won for our Table Topics. Turns out, that we were either too young or too old to remember those... But that would of course not harm the Tabletopics Speeches. The participants delivered hilarious and unique little presentations as usual.

Both of our speakers had some great advice for us today:

Speaker #1, Amy, shared how excited she was, when she discovered containers as such a useful tool to succesfully organizing her house. But are these containers as helpful when it comes to actually keep a home that organized? Unfortunately not. In the end we have learned, that there is only one way to reach that goal. "Stop bying things!" were Amy's wise words.

Courtney, our speaker #2, explained, why it is important for speakers to be nervous, before we give speeches; and how we can take advantage of that nervousness and turn it into the energy that perfects our speech. Not being nervous is what should make us nervous. What a wonderful confidence booster!

We sure gained some widespread knowledge this meeting - thank you, Jibbboomstreet Toastmasters!

This weeks meeting brought back childhood memories! Toastmaster Rick choose the theme "Disneyland".

Topicsmaster Louisa and Ah Counter & Grammarian Amy merged right away in their roles and impressed us as Minnie Mouse and Cinderella.

Congratulations to Peter! He gave a very active Icebreaker Speech and we all sure got to know him a lot better. Looking forward to hearing more from you!

Maria shared her views on how we all can help saving our environment by reducing that unnecessary daily plastic waste.

General Evaluator Richard completed his role today in true and authentic Captain Hook manner.

Club President Carmen keeps our brains working! After last weeks reversed meeting she surprised us this morning with a little different room set up that made us all enjoying the meeting from a different perspective.

Doug, as this meeting's Table Topics Master, gave the TT speakers a chance to practice for the upcoming Table Topics Club Contest as he choose to do the TT in a contest like structure: He started by telling a few words and the participants had to finish. Every TT speaker managed to use the word of the day "niveous"!

Veronica was a huge inspiration for all of us today with her speech. She encouraged us to "go out and do something New!" and never stop learning in order to keep ourselves happy throughout our lifes.

Not less inspirational was our speaker #2 Richard. He convinced us, that breaking the law might be reasonable sometimes, as long as you are acting within the "Spirit Of the Law".

Wow, what a first meeting - quite challenging but so fun! SDRAWKCAB ;) was our theme. Carmen started with adjourning the meeting. The GE evaluated the meeting before it even started. Stacey evaluated Rick's speech before he presented it. Louisa as our Table Topics Master called on TT participants and asked them to tell us their response before she stated the question....
Let's do that again soon!
