Public version of ARPA report has significant revisions to apparent grant overpayments, but the city is still responsible for millions in pandemic aid commitments.

Mayor Carmella R. Mantello has released the proposed 2027 City of Troy Budget, on time and focused on affordability, fiscal responsibility, public safety, and strategic investments while remaining UNDER the state tax cap.

Key priorities include:
✅ Increasing the city’s budget surplus to $1.2 million
✅ Healthy contingency fund
✅ No increase in annual garbage fee
✅ Strong credit and bond ratings
✅ Investing in public safety
✅ Advancing infrastructure improvements, parks, and economic development projects
✅ Opening permanent City Hall, immediately reducing annual costs by approximately $100,000

“At its core, this budget is about making every taxpayer dollar count,” said Mayor Mantello. “We are controlling costs, protecting City assets, and investing strategically in the services and infrastructure our residents depend on.”

: The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is looking at options for faster trips and more frequent service. Right now, there is only one train a day in each direction between Albany, Pittsfield and Boston. Andy Koziol of the MassDOT told NewsChannel 13's Zach Richter the state is weighing faster trains against adding more trips as it builds a service development plan.

RPI is advancing development of a new community childcare center in partnership with Bright Horizons following a $5 million award from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

The center will be located on campus and will provide 116 full-time childcare spaces for children under the age of 5.

RPI is currently working with Bright Horizons to plan for the center's operations and construction and anticipates welcoming families to the center in late 2027.
