There’s talk of a new park in the Town of Rotterdam, and while people may differ about what it should offer the community, Susan Sager, Brad Strang and plenty of others think they have a winning argument, Bill Buell writes today. https://buff.ly/6JkAJVa

A strong show of support for the future of Historic Lock One 🏛️🌊

Following their visit to the excavation site, the Albany Common Council formally called on NYSDOT to allow the site to remain open and to continue the archaeological work in the future.

Their letter makes the case clearly:

“It is our belief that maintaining the progress made thus far, as well as exploring additional opportunities for development, is in the best interest of the city and state.”

We couldn’t agree more 👏

Seeing the excavation firsthand gave Council members an opportunity to better understand what has been uncovered and the potential significance of preserving and continuing this work. The discoveries at Lock One have opened the door to exploring what’s possible not only for this historic site, but for the broader Albany Waterway vision and the economic and cultural opportunities it could create for our city.

Thank you to the Common Council for visiting the site, recognizing the significance of this work, and standing behind its continued progress 🌊
