Hunger in Troy

Hunger in Troy Our Purpose: To increase awareness and collaborative action regarding food security and reduced food waste in Troy. to 8:30 p.m.

Our Purpose
To increase awareness and collaborative action regarding food security and reduced food waste in Troy. The planning group seeks to improve knowledge of and collaboration between groups in Troy working on food justice issues. These issues include, but are not limited to, food waste, food security, food deserts, providing healthy food choices, and educating people about nutrition. The pl

anning group will reach out to individuals and groups not currently "at the table" and discern together a strategic action/project/campaign that they, along with an engaged public, might undertake. Our Goal
The intent of the event is to increase community awareness about food insecurity in Troy. Therefore, we will be asking all members of the planning group and community members to invite people who may not be aware of the challenge food access issues are for many people; food security is not just a small group of affected people or a holiday problem. We hope to increase awareness, actions, and make a bigger difference in this critical area of community. Ultimately, our hope is that this event will be the beginning of community groups and their new allies working closer together in a concerted effort to address food security in Troy. Currently we are hosting a food collection of fresh and pantry items to be dispersed to the City's pantries and soup kitchens. There are seven drop-off locations and donations are accepted from November 28th to Giving Tuesday on December 1st. Contact Capital Roots for more information: 274-8685

Past Event
Monday, 28 September 2015, from 5:30 p.m. at Sage Bush Memorial we hosted a community conversation about Hunger in Troy. For this event, we will encouraged people who have not seen or recently viewed the film A Place at the Table to arrive approximately two hours prior to the start of the event; this will give them the opportunity to view the film. During the event, we had a moderated panel discussion with representatives of various organizations that have missions related to food security, quality of food, and food justice. Following the panel, there were small group discussions focusing on actions that people can take to address the area of food security, quality, and other related issues which may arise. The event also provided space for community organizations to have table and poster displays exhibiting their efforts. For More Information:

These are exciting and challenging times for change agents. While gains have been made, many organizations have not yet realized the promise of more workplaces that leverage diversity. At the same time, the world outside of work seems more divided than ever over issues of difference: , , , , , and much more. How do and those responsible for I&D efforts enhance their skills so that they can navigate these times and accelerate change? How do we shift and speed up the landscape of change?
