Meet Duke!

At 11 years young, this handsome little Maltese has perfected the art of being an absolutely delightful companion. Duke is a sweet, affectionate gentleman who believes that life is best enjoyed with a little exploring, plenty of sniffs, and a warm lap to curl up in at the end of the day.

Duke loves his people and is happiest when he’s close by, whether that means keeping you company around the house, joining you for a leisurely stroll, or supervising your activities from the comfort of your lap. He’s an excellent little copilot in the car and enjoys getting out to see what the world has to offer, preferably at a pace that allows him to thoroughly investigate all the interesting smells along the way.

He’s already mastered “sit” and is continuing to work on his crate training and other life skills. Duke would love a family who enjoys helping him learn new things, providing fun enrichment opportunities, and making sure he gets plenty of affection.

Duke’s dream retirement plan includes a relaxed, adult-only home, a cozy place to nap, little adventures to keep life interesting, and humans who appreciate the finer things in life. Particularly cuddling.

If you’ve been looking for a devoted little companion who still has plenty of curiosity and love to share, Duke might just be your perfect match. After all, 11 years of experience being adorable ought to count for something!

Duke is begin fostered in Central Virginia. Please visit the Green Dogs Unleashed website for more info and the adoption application.

We are so incredibly proud to congratulate Donna Patton on receiving the Good Neighbor Award from the Virginia Association of REALTORS!

Donna has been a wonderful part of our Green Dogs Unleashed therapy dog family for years, first alongside our beloved Champ, and now with Rusty. We have had the privilege of watching her share the incredible gift of animal assisted therapy and activities with so many people, bringing comfort, connection, smiles, and a little extra happiness wherever she and her teammates go.

While the dogs certainly get most of the attention (and let’s face it, they’re pretty good at stealing the spotlight), it’s the dedicated humans on the other end of those leashes who make these visits possible. Donna has given so much of herself to making life a little brighter for others, and we couldn’t be happier to see her recognized for that kindness and commitment.

What makes this award even more meaningful is that it honors Champ’s memory and includes a generous donation to Green Dogs Unleashed, allowing his legacy of bringing joy to others to continue.

We often talk about how much our therapy dogs give to the people they visit, but we also know just how lucky those people are to have our Team Handlers showing up for them. She and her dogs have made a difference in more lives than they will probably ever know.

Congratulations, Donna! We are so grateful that you, Champ, and now Rusty are part of our GDU family. We can’t think of a more beautiful way to honor Champ’s memory while celebrating all the good You and Rusty continue to put into the world. 💚
