Rotary Club of Troy meets every Tuesday at 12 PM at the Troy Country Club.

Based on the Object of Rotary, the Avenues of Service are Rotary’s philosophical cornerstone and the foundation on which club activity is based:

Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club. Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards. Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community. International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.

A big thank you to our outstanding speakers from the past two weeks!
We were honored to hear from Dr. Duane Gunn, Lecturer and Director of Operations for Troy University’s Institute for Leadership Development. Dr. Gunn shared his powerful firsthand account of being inside the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. His story of that day, the uncertainty, the response, and the lasting lessons was both sobering and deeply moving.
We also welcomed Kyle Roane, Assistant Coach for the Troy University men’s basketball team. Coach Roane, a veteran with more than 30 years of coaching experience, shared a
preview of the upcoming basketball season and encouraged members to come out and support the team and games.

Last week, the Troy Rotary Club welcomed representatives from the Boys & Girls Clubs of East Alabama, who shared an update on their programs and the needs they’re seeing right here in our community.
Thank you to Benny Pinckard and Rick Smith for hosting, and to our guests for the work they do supporting local youth. Service above self starts with knowing where the need is.

Last week, Troy Rotary welcomed Dr. Dee Bennett and SHORT the Squirrel!
Connor Couch and Ed Hedden hosted as Dr. Bennett shared how she and Monica Anderson Young created Alabama’s literacy mascot after noticing children sitting idle in courtrooms (no devices allowed). What started as simple activity sheets became SHORT — a curious squirrel who turns waiting time into reading time.
SHORT now reaches kids statewide through booklets on court, recycling, finances, feelings, community, and more. A great reminder of the difference local creativity and partnerships can make.

Two weeks ago we were honored to welcome District Governor Steve Weaver to Troy Rotary. It was a great conversation about how our club can keep serving Pike County and creating lasting impact.

Last week we took a pause in honor of Labor Day — a chance to rest, recharge, and thank the people whose work keeps our community going.

Last week at Troy Rotary, Ted Clem and Alex Whaley hosted Casey Moore, Director of the Academy Street Career Innovation Center.
Moore shared how the new career academy on the historic Academy Street campus is already serving students from Troy City, Pike County, and Dale County Schools. Classes began in August, the first time students have filled that building since 1970, with many earning dual-enrollment credit through Enterprise State Community College in pathways that feed local jobs, including computer science, mechatronics, criminal justice, culinary arts, and utility lineman.
A great reminder of the work happening right here to prepare students for high-demand careers and strengthen Pike County’s workforce.

Last week, Rotary was proud to welcome Savannah W**d as our guest speaker!
Savannah shared her inspiring journey taking on the Make-A-Wish Trailblazer Challenge, reminding us all of the power of determination, community, and making wishes come true.
A big thank you to hosts Bob Whaley and Kait Nesbitt for leading a meaningful meeting and to Savannah for her powerful story.

Thank you to Pike County Probate Judge Michael Bunn for joining the Troy Rotary Club this week as our guest speaker. We appreciate Judge Bunn taking the time to share his knowledge and provide an informative program for our members.

This week at Rotary, we heard from Stan Blankenship, Professor of Practice and Coordinator for the Sorrell College of Business at Troy University.

Stan shared stories from his years with Fruit of the Loom and spoke about how much Troy University means to him.

We also heard from our scholarship award recipient, Olivia Schwarte from Pike Liberal Arts School. Olivia spoke about the impact of the support and her plans for the future.
