The last trash fishing day of the year was a good one. We found a COUCH. We also filled three bags with all sorts of trash that shouldn't be in our waterways. We always say it, you never know what you will find Trash Fishing.
Our fundraiser is on November 20th, 2025 at the Berkley (Michigan) American Legion on 12 mile rd. It is a chili cookoff and the world's weirdest silent auction. I hope you can attend.

Let's go Trash Fishing with Tom. It doesn't take an army to make a big environmental impact and to have a great time.

Trash Fishing is like fishing for fish, but we fish for trash. We try to get as much trash out of our waterways as possible. Today we went to Stony Island, which is an abandoned island in the Detroit River. It is in direct path from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean.

We did some Trash Fishing today and had a great time doing so. It was a super hot day and it was great to be out on the water because any other trash cleanup would have been torture. We made this little video to show what we do.

We are (finally) going trash fishing tonight. I'm pretty psyched about it.

Trash Fishing is a new activity for outdoors people. It is like fishing, but we fish for trash. It's an adventure and a treasure hunt. We seek quantity, size, and impact in our hunt to remove the worst trash from our waterways. Trash fishermen make a great impact on our natural resources.
Who:
Anyone can try trash fishing. We hope you will. Tom Nardone and his son Mark invented it and welcome you to join in.
Where:
The Detroit River is our Trash Fishing home, but you are welcome to trash fish anywhere.
Why:
Because trash doesn't belong in our rivers and lakes. Because we are strong enough to do something about it. Because it is fun.
How:
Go out and get trash. Remove it from the waterway and throw it away.
Join one of our events. We run a series of Trash Fishing Contests.
When:
We post the schedule of our Trash Fishing Events here on our page in our “Events” tab.
Does it cost anything?
No. Trash fishing is free. No fishing license is required. Sponsors supply us with some of the tools that make trash fishing easier, like trash grabbers, and dumpster use.
Any suggestions?
Trash fishing is fun from a boat. You might want to use a "Grabber" tool or a net to snag the trash. We suggest that you initially put it in a trash can with some holes in the bottom so that all of the water will drain out.
Is it fun?
Yup. It is as fun and a little bit easier than regular fishing. We also find a really wide variety of trash.
