A dedicated member of the Troy Lions Club has been honored for a lifetime of service and commitment to others. Doug Ulkins has been awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest distinction presented by Lions Clubs International.
The award recognizes individuals who exemplify the organization’s core values of service, compassion, and leadership. Named after Lions Clubs founder Melvin Jones, the fellowship is reserved for those who go above and beyond to make a meaningful impact. It is not based on tenure or position, but on consistent, selfless contributions that strengthen both the club and the community.
Ulkins has earned the respect of fellow Lions for his steadfast reliability and willingness to help in any capacity. Whether volunteering at events, working behind the scenes, or offering guidance during challenges, he is widely recognized as someone who leads by example. His approach is grounded in humility and a genuine desire to serve others.
Members say his steady presence and unwavering commitment have made a lasting impact, both within the organization and throughout the community.
With this honor, Ulkins joins a distinguished group of individuals worldwide who embody the Lions Clubs motto, “We Serve.” Fellow Lions and community members alike extend their congratulations, noting that his contributions continue to make the area stronger and more connected.
A member of the Troy Lions Club since 1981, Ulkins has dedicated more than 40 years to the organization. His service includes 14 years of perfect attendance and a wide range of leadership roles, including Secretary, First Vice President, Second Vice President, President, and Director.
His involvement spans decades, including nearly 20 years with the minstrel show and significant contributions to numerous committees, such as the Christmas Basket, Golf, Raffle, Old Shoe, and Sports Award committees. In addition, he has served for many years as a song leader and as Leo Club chair, mentoring younger members and supporting the next generation of community leaders.
Throughout his decades of service, Ulkins has exemplified the spirit of giving back—making a difference not only through his leadership, but through his unwavering dedication to others.
