Writing this post immediately took me back to all of the feelings I had on March 22, 2020 when our very first blessing box was installed at The Lincoln Community Center. As my dad dug the post into the ground, I wondered, “Would this idea work? Would we be able to rally enough help? Would people feel loved simply by opening the door of a brightly painted food truck?” If those questions weren’t enough, just a few days later the whole country shut down due to COVID-19. Every blessing box has “give what you can, take what you need” written on the front of it, however suddenly, everyone was running to the store in fear, stocking up on toilet paper and clearing food shelves because thats what the news was telling us we needed to do. As people were filling their pantries in panic, I didn’t think there was any way anyone would be willing to give, but I was very wrong!
Much of the first year of The Community Food Truck Blessing Box was operated during the height of a national pandemic, and while that is not how I pictured our journey would start, it is a testimony of God’s faithfulness and perfect timing. In the midst of chaos and confusion, God opened door after door and before we knew it, there were 18 blessing boxes in 5 different cities.
In the last 1,460 days, the blessing boxes have been stocked with hundreds of thousands of packets of ramen noodles, cans of meat, bottles of water, peanut butter crackers and so much more. With your help, in addition to the blessing boxes being filled daily, Christmas morning and Thanksgiving groceries have been passed out to hundreds, pizza, snacks and smiles have been delivered to local apartment complexes, and healthy afterschool snacks were shared with students at the Lincoln Community Center.
As we filled the blessing boxes with birthday themed treats this weekend, my prayer was that together we continue to walk in faith and show up to love our community every day. Most of the time we don’t know who we are impacting when we fill the blessing boxes or send in a donation, but from the people I have had the privilege of meeting and the messages i’ve received, I know together we have touched the lives of many veterans, the homeless community, single moms, families facing job loss, hungry kids, and those living on fixed incomes, just to mention a few.
Thank you for your continued support and generosity! We are celebrating year four with very thankful hearts!
