There will be a service to celebrate Dorcas Rose's life, with a reception to follow, on Saturday, May 14, at 11 am at Christ Church United Methodist, located at 35 State St (corner of State and 5th).

The service can also be attended via Zoom or YouTube. See post for details.

Dorcas B. Rose, 84, died at home Wednesday, February 2, 2022, surrounded by family after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She and her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Rose, have been proud Troy residents for the last 40 years.

Happy Earth Day!

Tomorrow, folks around the city will be cleaning up their neighborhoods.

Join the Osgood/South Troy Neighborhood Group on Saturday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to clean up alleys and Lots of Hope Park.

Team up with friends & neighbors, choose your own clean up spot, bring your rakes, shovels and gloves and pick up bags at the park!

There will be music and entertainment in the park starting at 10:30 a.m.:

-The Inauguration of the Troy Street Piano in the park
-Music by Heard Music & Troy Samba
-Artist & hula hooping master, ObaRoEne
-Mural painiting
-Tree planting

THANK YOU to the two owners of LV Motor Sales and Detailing (at 700 River Street) for assisting several Second Street residents with digging out their cars yesterday.

They were driving by and saw people struggling to dig out their cars. They pulled over, jumped out, and freed three frozen cars. Many thanks! 👋

While the city has not declared a snow emergency, the mayor has asked residents to move cars into driveways or municipal parking lots or garages, if possible, to allow snow plows to clear streets.

Parking is free on nights and weekends at all municipal parking lots and garages:

⚫ Congress Street Parking Lot, located on the corner of Congress Street and 5th Avenue (accessible via southbound on 5th Avenue)

⚫ Fifth Avenue Garage, located at Fifth Avenue and Broadway

⚫ Fourth Street Parking Lot, located at corner of 4th and Ferry Streets (relocated from lot adjacent to former Key Bank building – January 2019)

⚫ Front Street Parking Lot, located on Front Street behind the Arts Center (accessible via southbound on Front Street)

⚫ Green Island Bridge Parking Lot, located on River Street between Jacob Street and Federal Street

⚫ State Street Parking Garage, located on the corner of State Street and River Street

⚫ Y-Lot Parking Lot, located at First Street between River Street & State Street

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for the greater Capital Region, including Troy, beginning Friday, 7 p.m. through 12:00 p.m. Saturday. Very cold wind chills (15 below to 25 below zero) are expected.

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. According to NWS, the cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Additional cold weather safety tips from NWS are available at https://www.weather.gov/safety/cold-before

A message from our friends at St. Mary's:
Bell Ringing at St. Mary's Church!

Perk up your ears for the sweet, clear sound of a bell that rang out to the people of South Central Troy for over one hundred years.

The bell at St. Mary's Church (at 3rd and Washington Streets) has been silent for over 10 years, but on New Year's Eve at 6 p.m. and again on New Year's Day at noon, it will once again ring out to announce 2022.

And if you're in the neighborhood of the church in the evening, look above the main entrance for the kaleidoscopic rose window lit up for the season. It's one of our area's oft-overlooked jewels.
