At our Sunday meeting, Bruce H. gave a report on grant funding the need to contact our local representatives. The following info was sent to me to share with the organization. Please take the time to read and act.
From Bruce:
Several organizations and coalitions are actively urging Congress to support and increase funding for the Federal Recreational Trails Program (RTP), particularly as the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s authorization expires on September 30, 2026

Background on RTP
Purpose: The RTP provides federal funding for both motorized and non-motorized trail development and maintenance.
Funding Mechanism: It is a "user-pay, user-benefit" program funded through fuel taxes paid by off-road recreational trail users.
Current Status: Reauthorized through FY 2026, it is currently funded at $84 million annually, a level that has remained unchanged since 2009.

How to Take Action

-Sign-on to Support:
Visit the American Trails website American Trails for template letters to send to your congressional representatives.

https://www.americantrails.org/crt/rtp-advocacy-materials

-Contact Congress Directly:
Use Congress.gov to find your representatives and express the importance of RTP funding.

Highlight Local Impact: Share data on how RTP funds have built and maintained trails in your state, particularly for both motorized and non-motorized use.

To the masses of Snowmobilers that think everything just magically happens. Join this meeting tonight. Our winter rec program is failing.

Hosted by Washington State Parks Winter Recreation SMAC!

Part 2 of the Winter SMAC (Snowmobile advisory committee) will be meeting virtually this Wednesday, March 25 at 6PM.

We will be discussing the expected budget shortfall next season (registrations were down 22%). One of the bigger topic tomorrow will be what YOU can do about it in your local area.

There will be as much time as needed for public comment. So please bring your comments, questions and concerns.

It is with great regret that we have had to make the decision to cancel the annual kids ride next weekend. The conditions are just not good enough to safely proceed with this event. Fingers crossed for next year.
