Backpacking and adventure ministry. Wilderness Trail has seen that incredible growth can begin with first letting go.

Wilderness Trail believes that amazing things happen when you take people out of their comfort zone and place them in the beauty of God's creation. Our main programming takes place in the summer when we take groups of youth on 5-day backpacking journeys on the Appalachian Trail. Our central themes of servant leadership and being the body of Christ are lived out on the hike and here at our "base camp" during each 7-day event. As we let go of the worries and thoughts of our daily lives we are then able to begin looking outward. As we lose ourselves in the care of our neighbor we see God in us!

A big thanks to Matthew Blackburn for taking some time out of his busy life to share some time out in the woods with our brothers and sisters from Haywood Street! They had a wonderful time playing wiffleball, enjoying beautiful views, and sharing time around the fire.

We would like to highlight Monroe Duginske out of Central United Methodist Church. Monroe had a wonderful experience this past summer and we wanted to share it with you all!

My favorite part about Wilderness Trail this year was the community this experience built. I feel like it made me stronger to my youth group leader, my pastor, and the people who are in my community. God surprised me while being on Wilderness Trail by reminding me to stay grateful and positive. Even though Trail was hard and was physically and mentally demanding I found as long as I stayed positive it made it so much more fun and I think that was a fresh outlook that I can apply to life every day and I have applied to life every day since Trail. I’ve experienced God in different ways through Wilderness Trail by letting me disconnect from the world on a day-to-day basis, disconnecting from devices, and the stress of daily life and letting me be really be grateful for His creation.

Summer 2027 Junior Staff applications are now open!!

If you have completed at least one Wilderness Trail hiking and will be over the age of 15 by next summer, you are eligible to apply! Please consider joining us next summer and living into what it means to be a servant leader.

Sending good vibes to these folks as they travel together on a Wilderness Trail backpacking trip. They left yesterday and return tomorrow. Wilderness Trails trips have been a part of the Haywood St. story for many years. Prayers for these sojourners as they experience holy moments together on the trail. Had a wonderful fall retreat with Blackburn’s Chapel this past weekend! Got to spend some time up at the property resting and connecting with one another as we shared some little foxes and Holy Grounds and crafted about our faith journey. A beautiful fall weekend to spend in a beautiful place!
