πŸˆπŸš‘ Getting Ready for Sports Season! πŸš‘πŸˆ

Last week, Tripoli Ambulance Service members participated in a sports injury training session to help prepare for the upcoming football and athletic seasons. Hands-on training like this helps ensure our EMTs are ready to respond quickly and effectively when injuries occur on the field, court, or track.

A special thank you goes out to our volunteer "patients" from Tripoli Community Schools who helped make this training a success:

βœ… Blaine Bucknell
βœ… Braxton Bucknell
βœ… Bryce Matt
βœ… Taylor Mueller
βœ… Brynn Mueller

Their willingness to step in and assist with realistic training scenarios gave our crews valuable experience and made the training much more effective.

We appreciate these outstanding student-athletes for donating their time and helping us better serve our community. Best of luck to all Tripoli athletes as the fall sports season gets underway!

πŸšπŸ“š School is Back in Session! Let's Keep Our Kids Safe! πŸšΈπŸ›‘

As students head back to school, Tripoli Ambulance Service would like to remind everyone to slow down, stay alert, and help keep our children safe.

βœ… Watch for children walking or biking to school. βœ… Obey school zone speed limits. βœ… Stop for school buses when red lights are flashing and stop arms are extended. βœ… Avoid distractions such as texting while driving. βœ… Leave a little earlier so you're not rushing through school zones. βœ… Be extra cautious during morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off times.

Parents, take a few minutes to review safe routes to school, crosswalk locations, and bus safety with your children. A little preparation can go a long way toward preventing accidents.

Let's work together to make this a safe and successful school year for every student, teacher, bus driver, and family in our community.

πŸ’™ From all of us at Tripoli Ambulance Service, have a safe and wonderful school year!

πŸš‘πŸ““βœοΈ Every child deserves a safe trip to and from school.

πŸš‘πŸ¬ One more parade in the books!

With parade season nearly behind us and back-to-school season right around the corner, we wanted to share this great photo from Saturday's Tripoli Parade. Our Paramedic Sam, Doug, and the twins helped hand out candy and represent Tripoli Ambulance along the route.

Thanks to everyone who joined the fun this summer. We wish all students, teachers, and school staff a safe and successful school year!

πŸ“šβœοΈ See you next summer, parade season! β˜€οΈπŸš‘πŸ’™

Bremer County Sheriff's Office

Stay cool this week especially if you are heading to the Bremer County Fair. https://www.bremercountyfair.com/full-schedule

πŸ’§ While You're at the Fair

Carry a refillable water bottle and drink regularly.
Take breaks in the shade or air-conditioned buildings.
Avoid overdoing it during the hottest part of the day (typically 1 PM to 5 PM).
Eat light meals and snacks such as fruit, vegetables, and other foods with high water content.
Limit alcohol and excessive caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration.

πŸ‘Ά Extra Care for Kids and Older Adults

Check on children and older family members frequently.
Make sure they are drinking water even if they don't ask for it.
Use strollers, umbrellas, cooling towels, and shaded rest areas whenever possible.

🚨 Know the Signs of Heat Illness
Watch for:

Dizziness or lightheadedness
Headache
Nausea
Excessive sweating or suddenly stopping sweating
Muscle cramps
Confusion or unusual behavior

If someone shows severe symptoms such as confusion, fainting, or a body temperature that seems dangerously high, move them to a cool place and seek medical help immediately.

Last month we had the privilege of hosting two Flight Nurses from AirCare 2 out of Waterlooβ€”Amy Gehrke and Kristin Askrenβ€”during training. They shared how their helicopter, based at the Waterloo airport, can be airborne in 8–10 minutes and reach anywhere in Bremer County in under 15 minutes.

AirCare brings ICU-level care right to the patient and is used for serious, time-sensitive emergencies. Because there is no charge to activate them if we end up not needing transport, we often rely on early information from dispatch and may launch them before we even arrive on scene.

That’s why it’s so important when you call 911 to stay on the line, stay calm, and provide as much information as possibleβ€”it truly helps us make the best decision as quickly as we can.
In many cases, patients are transported directly to Iowa City for the highest level of care, rather than stopping at a local hospital first.

Unfortunately, due to weather the night of our training, the helicopter was not able to fly into Tripoliβ€”but the information and hands-on learning were still incredibly valuable.
Thank you to Amy and Kristin for taking the time to come out and give us a great refresherβ€”we truly appreciate it!

πŸš‘ It’s EMS Week – and we’re celebrating more than just the calls we respond to. ❀️
Our volunteers do so much more than emergency response.
A couple weeks ago, two of our members, Sam and Aaron, took time out of their day to help with Tripoli Elementary’s Health Day. They spent time with students, teaching, sharing, and helping build awareness about what EMS does.
That’s what being part of Tripoli EMS is all about:

Showing up for emergencies 🚨
Supporting our schools and community 🏫
Educating the next generation πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈπŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈ
Giving back in ways that go beyond the ambulance ❀️

πŸ’™ This EMS Week, we want to say THANK YOU to all of our volunteersβ€”past and presentβ€”for the time, dedication, and heart you bring to our community.

πŸ‘‹ Interested in joining Tripoli EMS?

You don’t have to be an EMT to make a difference
We are actively working on new ways to volunteer, including non-emergency roles
Training and support are available

πŸ‘‰ If you’ve ever thought about helping your community, now is a great time to get involved.
