The Friends of Prince William Forest Park would like to see Prince William Forest Park's name changed back to the historic 1936 name of Chopawamsic. The Friends support the proposed name change of Chopawamsic National Recreation Area; recognizing the historic significance of the park as the model for the New Deal era Recreational Demonstration Area (RDA) program. This program produced over 40 outdoor recreation areas, within a 50 mile radius of major urban areas across the country, of which only two remain within the National Park Service today. Happy 75th Birthday Prince William Forest Park!
