Big news on the conservation front: Mark Kenyon is taking the lead as our new Director of Conservation.

Conservation isn’t a side project for us—it’s the foundation. And 2025 proved just how much work it takes to defend public lands, wild places, and wildlife when they’re under pressure.

Pushing back required hunters, anglers, recreationists, and everyday people who still believe in the ethic of Theodore Roosevelt: do the work, protect what matters, and leave it better than you found it.

As we head into 2026, we’re doubling down on leadership. With Ol’ Cal stepping into the President and CEO role at Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, we’re fired up to have Mark leading our conservation efforts here.

🌲 Welcome to Coal Region Conservation 🌄

From the deep mine tunnels that built our towns to the mountain streams that still run through them, the Coal Region has a story worth preserving — and restoring.

Our mission is simple: to care for the lands and waters that nature has begun to reclaim. We’re working to keep our hills, woods, and streams clean — removing trash, stopping illegal dumping, and protecting the native plants and wildlife that make this region home.

Some of our waters still need time and care to heal, but nature is proving how strong this place really is. Every cleanup, every effort, helps the land breathe a little easier and the water run a little clearer.

🌱 Together, we can protect what’s already beautiful and help it grow even stronger.
