Building Excellent Scholars for Tomorrow

10/11/2026

A scholarship can open a door. It cannot remove every obstacle waiting on the other side.
College students still face academic pressure, isolation, financial emergencies, limited professional networks, and the challenge of turning a degree into a career. First-generation students often navigate all of that without the inherited roadmap others take for granted.
That is why we created BEST Pathways: a high-touch support system combining peer community, personal guidance, career exposure, and flexible financial support.
We listened to our scholars. They did not need us to lower the bar. They needed a stronger bridge to reach it.

The Derby helps us build that bridge.

Nyomi-Amor Hatchett is preparing to make justice more compassionate, equitable, and responsive to people too often unheard.
The George Washington University Presidential Scholar studies philosophy and psychology, has earned the Dean's List twice, serves as Finance Chair for the National Council of Negro Women, and is active in Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity.
Her goal is a legal career rooted in advocacy and meaningful community change.
When you bet on their success, you invest in the communities our scholars will one day lead and serve.

Nkosazana Burke-Douglas is building a future at the intersection of patient care, research, and community advocacy.
The Rutgers-New Brunswick Honors College student studies Clinical Psychology and Korean. She has earned a Critical Language Scholarship, served as a peer instructor and community mentor, and is already pursuing research centered on the mental health of Black women.
For Nkosazana, the BEST scholarship was more than financial support. It was a reminder that people see her potential.
This is who we bet on.
