🚨🔥 NATIONAL WILDFIRE OUTLOOK: JUNE 2026 🔥🚨

The latest National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook is showing a concerning trend heading into summer. Large portions of the West, Southwest, Pacific Northwest, Northern Rockies, Great Lakes region, and parts of the Upper Midwest are now forecast to have Above Normal Significant Wildland Fire Potential for June 2026.

The red-shaded areas on this map indicate locations where conditions are favorable for:
🔥 Increased large fire activity
🔥 Faster rates of spread
🔥 More competition for firefighting resources
🔥 Longer-duration incidents
🔥 Elevated threats to communities and infrastructure

Forecasters point to a combination of:
• Persistent drought conditions
• Below-normal snowpack in portions of the West
• Early curing of grasses and fine fuels
• Above-normal temperatures
• Dry and windy weather patterns developing across multiple Geographic Areas simultaneously

Particularly concerning are portions of:
📍 California
📍 Oregon
📍 Washington
📍 Idaho
📍 Montana
📍 Utah
📍 Arizona
📍 New Mexico
📍 Colorado
📍 Great Lakes states including Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan

NIFC’s outlook is designed to help fire managers anticipate where significant fires are most likely to occur and where national firefighting resources may be heavily committed throughout the summer season.

As we move deeper into fire season, now is the time for communities to review evacuation plans, create defensible space, harden structures against ember intrusion, and stay situationally aware of local fire conditions.
